I have a two-word domain name, first word ends with A and second word start with A.

Should I buy ___a__.com, i.e. if my domain name is (for example) saunaafter.com, should I buy saunafter.com? Is that a common misspelling?

Assuming this is for a business where you eventually plan to make your living, or a substantial part of it...................

Does that not answer your question? Get both. Build on the correct spelling, forward the mistype to it. If in a few years there is no traffic to the mistype you could consider dropping it, but I expect you will need it.

If you are buying for selling the domain later, I doubt a reg fee domain would be good enough for that kind of protection- and you would have to convince the buyer of the regular name to take both. So it is a different answer, depending on why you bought the domain.

DOMAINING IS AN ADDICTIVE PRACTICE.
OVER-USE OF THE "BUY" BUTTON CAN CAUSE SEVERE EMOTIONAL AND FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES.
THERE IS NO "SAFE" DOSE OF DOMAINS, PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SWEPT AWAY BY WHAT THEY BELIEVED TO BE INNOCENT GENERICS.

SIGNS OF INFECTION INCLUDE FREQUENTLY CHECKING AVAILABILITY OF PHRASES YOU HEAR IN CONVERSATION, BRAGGING TO MYSTIFIED FRIENDS ABOUT "SNAPPING A KILLER LLLL", AND DREAMING ABOUT NEW GTLDS.

THERE IS NO CURE, HOWEVER EDUCATION HAS BEEN SHOWN TO IMPROVE THE CHANCES OF A SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME.

Thanks! If it was available, I'll definitely register it, but right now it's taken (by an ad site). I'll definitely try to buy it, but not sure I'll be able to get it.

I guess the better question is: is it still worth using the name _aa_.com if I won't be able to get _a_.com? It's for a personal side project site that could potentially turn into a business. Will I have problems with people going to wrong URL after hearing it on the phone, etc?

I like the name _aa_.com, but is it better to choose a different name with less mispelling potential?

If you are serious about developing the _AA_ into a a profitable website, you might need the _A_ domain for protection. But if it's something you are simply considering, then I wouldn't go after the _A_. I'd simply wait for the current owner to drop it. But as you conclude yourself, you are better going after another domain without the misspelling angle to it.

Make an offer and see what happens, then consider other domain names. Be sure to make an offer before doing anything with your domain name that way the seller does is not tipped off to who the buyer might be.

I agree with Stub. Check Whois and see how long the mispell (sic) has until renewal, if it is short they may drop it - why keep a misspell when the correct version is available to register. Of course if you register the correct then the guy might see that and hold out. If you inquire abouyt buying he likely wont drop it. An "Ad site" means it probably is a domainer.
