That is it - let's say that one has a site which ranks first on Google for a key-phrase in English SIMILAR [two very searched keywords in the DN industry, same meaning] to "host domain", but not this one - another combo that I'll keep private for now.

We mean FIRST on google.com, base English version, two super-common words of that meaning, without quotes, free text search, stable result since alot of weeks. Obviously a tonload of other keywords of this kind come very high too on the same site. NO cheats, no blackhat, no illegal or immoral methods.

Now my question is -

--how much is it reasonably worth, if anything, such a SERP achievement, as paid service, if I were to buy it from someone?

--how much would it be worth, if anything, to publish a text ad or a banner or a button on such page, for a given timeframe?

Pls help appraising if you like, I'm curious and will of course
show appreciation for well-pondered feedback.

*** oh we mean first on fierce competition of LARGE companies - over 30 millions results, with usually several paid ads on ther right.

Without knowing the keyword :( How can we tell what it is worth even if it is worth anything. Mostly advertisers don't see SERP's they see traffic as well as pricing depends on the niche too. So without knowing a keyword I don't know if telling something approximately would be good enough.

Well, it has been said a keyword/ keyphrase very similar to "host domain", two terms without quotes with same meaning and very relevant to the domain industry.:)

It isn't cheap, and hiring SEOs will be half the work since you have to have proof of and verify their past achievements. If this is not your field, then I would suggest going out and looking for some top-notch engineers. You have some key hurdles to face:

No one can make guarantees on what your rank will be after 3 months, 6 months or 3 years.
The budgets of your competition, who will quickly retaliate after you move up
Your willingness to put in alot of extra time and effort, not to mention other items you might need, such as server upgrades, new domains and hosting accounts, and persistent reading of webmaster sites.
You can spend nothing and move up to rank 3 or you can spend 50k and move up to rank 10, it is impossible to predict anything

Bottom line is, if you have the right domain, strong product and real support in place, it is worth your time to start learning and searching.

What kind of traffic are you seeing? Without an idea of the traffic and the average cpc for the search time it is really not possible to say.

Currently in the several dozens unique visitors per day, it is so since a couple of months. It may seem small, but I'm pretty sure that the amount of people searching domain names related content are comparably less than the ones searching "free mp3 downloads"

Of course it is quite unpredictable - however we do have cases of stable ranking for quite sustained periods of time, as much as strong hints of whether a given ranking is going to be solid or not.

The SERP I talk about exists, its reason of ranking are quite evident to the insider, and is there since two months, very likely to stay there- EG, as soon as the page was published and indexed, it went on top. Moreoever, I have other results of comparable kind that stay there since almost 3 years.

The domain is free from "sandbox" risks; it exists from long time, even if it has not been used for real content until recently. Being a lucky name it also benefits of the "example.com" type of natural linking from forums and the like independently by the content hosted.

It's really tough to say the value without knowing the phrase, but I think you are smart not to share it. A lot of people read these forums and would be more than happy to be your competition.

Having said that the traffic is really not that high. I can't answer your first questions because there just is not enough info.

However, may I suggest that a great way to monetize a site like that would be to do a comparison of different hosting providers. Rate them and help the user make their decision of what host to use. Of course, you will be using affiliate links so you will make some money along the way.
