Seo Advice With Google Penguin/Algorithms Updates?

I like to consider myself pretty smart when it comes to link building. About 1 1/2 months ago I started a new link building campaign for a keyword that I would like to rank well for. It was going good until about 2 weeks ago.

The keyword I am trying to rank well for was not even in the top 1,000 on Google. 2 Weeks ago I finally got it around 120 something. However, it has been there ever since. Nothing I do seems to get it any lower.

Anyone who has ever done SEO knows how your ranking with that certain keyword will bounce all over the place. Mine keeps bouncing from 120 something to around 830 something for a few hours everyday.

I have posted on many social network sites, forum signatures, a few good directories, many articles and etc.

My posts sparatically contain different anchor text just to keep it looking natural. I have done teir one and teir two link building as well.

Does anyone have any advice as what I need to do in order to help finish getting it on page one? With these new updates it just seems harder to reach this goal. I have my on page SEO looking good but just cant get it over the hump these last two weeks.

Thanks!

There's really no way to answer this without knowing what the keyword is, what your competition looks like and seeing your link profile. Is most of your anchor text branded and/or non-keyword or is it a bunch of keyword variations?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I have used several variations of different keywords to keep it looking natural.
