In chat, we've been testing out a new set of rules on Fridays to allow selling ("Casual Fridays"): More details.

Please let us know whether we should:
  1. Only allow selling in chat on Fridays like we have been doing.
  2. Extend selling in chat to the entire weekend.
  3. Allow selling every other day in chat.
  4. Always (24/7) selling in chat.
  5. Never allow selling in chat.
  6. Other (explain in a post)

Thanks in advance!

24/7, keep the 15-minute rule, maybe let people comment on posted names

Overall, I'm in favor of allowing more so than not. Maybe even everyday.

Also allow hyperlink formatting in chat at least so posters can make the domain name they are selling be the link. Would keep long ugly hypertext references from clogging up chat.

Also, what about having two chats? One with selling/buying and the other regular chat with no sales.

The current chat 24/7 selling mode (public)

We need a private chat space, members, logged in only where w e can ask top secret stuff

Chat is different from thread , its .... Quicker?

So, if I was a buyer, I would simply go to the forum and look thru the threads.
It's a free advertisement on the right side of (almost) every page of NamePros. It enables a greater potential for someone to see it than could be achieved otherwise. For example, a thread can be bumped a few times a day, but in chat, it can be posted every 15 minutes during the weekends.

It's difficult to know how effective it is because it depends largely on timing, how often the seller posts it in chat, the buyer informing the seller that they found their thread from chat, etc.

But if you have the time, it doesn't hurt to use the free service.

Check out the Insiders Club:
We hope that helps.

It's not that simple:
  • 82 votes are for Always
  • 116 votes (At least) are for Not Always (Never, Every other day, Weekends only, Fridays only)
That's why we do not plan to change it at this time. We are considering creating two rooms (One for Chatting and one for Selling).

Edit: Stats updated on May 19, 2017
Update on the current poll results*:
  • 101 votes for always
  • 160 votes for not always (Fridays only, Weekends only, Every other day, Never, and Other; 32+52+8+60+8)
Note: Voters can change their vote at any time.

We hope that helps.

* Some members for "not always" may be counted twice because each member may select up to two choices.

@LoodeX Said that to Mod Bravo yesterday, pretty reasonable

@Paul Hmm, maybe. What you suggested sounds equally reasonable. I seen the current "chat section" to be that casual place to go to, and always have done (from the relatively short stay I've been here) ...it is pretty inactive anyway, considering there are often hundreds of members online, yet maybe 3 - 5 people total in the chat room, at any one time ...that can be improved. Whatever people opt for, the right decision should result in higher activity

You want people to find it a pleasure being in this community, resulting in fluent contact among members, without mass amounts of unwanted content (domain pushing) ...obvious goal. I think even if you had that "hide" feature, most people will click that straight away when entering chat, then a very limited amount of eyes are on the stuff anyway, resulting in it being a lost cause for the pushers as a whole (counter intuitive). Overall: Its a delicate balance, the feature mentioned may be an improvement

I like the idea of having two separate chatrooms, but I'm a bit concerned that it would result in the chatroom that doesn't allow domain names becoming inactive. Perhaps it would make more sense to differentiate between promotional messages and other messages, then add a preference to hide promotional messages.
If that’s easier to implement why not ..The users could still filter out “sales” if they wish ..both ideas are good

But in this case it doesn't change anything.

This was started over 5 years ago.

The NamePro admins have never seemed to care about what features the users here have wanted, even though this site is almost entirely made up of user created content. This site would be nothing without its users.

Leave the chat as it is. It is wisely built, no change is needed in my opinion.
