Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

Try Googling "Google Black List"; also, there are Google forums with knowledgeable members willing to help out.

They helped out with my adsense account in that they suggested ways to approach writing my appeal (It worked).

Just keep in mind that behind every corporation, there are humans willing to help.

Good luck.

;)

Will do, thanks!

In Google webmaster tools you can ask them to reconsider a site and one of the reasons you can give is change of owner. Not sure that helps with a parked domain, but if you put up an unmonetised minisite with it that might help revive it.

Not sure how to handle it actually. I've had the name since 2004. It sat idle, not even parked.

Then in 2009 I came across GoDaddy's CashParking and listed my names there. Initially it didnt do much. Then in late 2010 the name began to earn $100 per month with thousands of unique visits per month! It went on like that, more or less averaging $100/mth, for about 6 months and then started to drop off. Meanwhile, I have no idea what is going on. I eventually searched on the term and found out that a company in Indonesia created a product with the exact same name in late 2010. They were using the same domain name but .id yet everyone is typing in .com.

After it dropped off I moved it to Sedo and it did very poorly and eventually I noticed this Tier 2 thing. So now I know. Somehow it got banned. Why I have no idea though...

Anyone know who Sedo's "Tier 2" provider is? I have a domain that for whatever reason shows:

"This domain is monetized by our Tier 2 ad provider."

It is non-adult, non-gambling...... Generic 4 letter dot-com. They wont tell me why or who is serving the domain.

From what people say it sounds like someone decided it shouldn't be showing Google ads - but that could be decided by Google, by Sedo or Sedo's quirky TM-sensitive software, or maybe even by the account holder. Sedo say that if you want to park your domains on Sedo but not using ads supplied by Google, they can park them with Tier 2 advertisers and so not send your details on to Google.

Probably the only way to really know if it is banned for Adsense is to ask Google Adsense, or put Adsense on a site on this domain and see if Google then tells you it won't show ads on that domain.

Sedo sent me an email stating their NEW privacy policy. They intend now to give your name, address, phone number, etc. to targeted advertisers.

What makes this more insidious is that, when you go to their site to opt-out of targeted ads, you're actually uploading some of their files.

Lucky my anti-virus caught it.

Sedo, is this what you've sunk to?

Like I said on another thread, I am not to worried. Sedo can not effectively deliver relevant ads on my domains with exact targeted keywords so the data they're giving these advertisers probably wont help them much. Garbage in garbage out.

I have looked it up with dozens of "blacklist checkers" and it does not appear to be banned. I just checked this site, a moment ago:

http://www.metricintent.com/free-seo-tools/google-blacklist-checker/

The domain is clear it says. But Sedo says its google. Gotta love the run-around. Cant imagine why Sedo would decide not to put ads on the site as it takes a large chunk of that ad $... Oh well. My intent is to try to sell these names now, I dont have time to build sites anymore or keep up with parking rules, etc. Just want to sell these names and pay my medical bills and be done with domains actually. Need to find someone who makes offers on entire portfolios is what I think I need to look for.

Park your domains with NameDrive.
In special virtual folder ND shows all blocked domains by Google.

I ma really surprise to see that from 440 domains selected for Great Domain auction, only 30 or even less names have received bids since the auction started, why so ??

It's only the first day.

Many of the names are crap.

Many of the reserves are too high.

There's even one with a 1,000 sterling bid that is completely worthless.

The domain market is in a major slump.

The number of sales are shrinking.

Values are tumbling.

13, 14 year old domains are regularly dropping.

Did I miss anything? :gl:

because most names selected for "great domains auction" are not great domains.

and because SEDO is becoming a joke:

their requirements for "great domains auction" are :

Auction Criteria
Domains may be approved for GreatDomains Auction Events if they:

are short, easy-to-remember, real words or phrases found in the dictionary and/or everyday conversation
are generic, with appeal to a broad audience (car.com, creditcard.com or books.com)
are easy to spell and not prone to typographical errors when typed into a browserโ€™s address bar
are product-related with a high commercial value (e.g. loans.com or stocks.com)
are geographically appropriate (an English .com might be approved whereas an English .de domain would not)
are not in potential violation of any third party rights, such as trademarks, intellectual property, or other famous names
are comprised of words or phrases with high search result return counts
have high CPC/Advertising bids in relation to search terms

And now look at all the names such as v170.com , p104.com, 509a.com, etc...

ok so i will register names like v142.com or 534a.com, etc. (available right now) and submit to "great domains auction"

Yep. I've got names that they've rejected which leave me scratching my head. Meanwhile, there are some incredibly ridiculous names chosen. They must be going the way of Afternic, a once great company....

Same here. Most of my several hundred names no longer display targeted ads. They are so off the mark its not even funny.

I think that some of the problem with Great Domains is that the cleaning lady is picking the wrong names. Maybe needs new glasses or not so much gin in those she already has.

In addition decent names that had previously been rejected are blocked from being submitted. Must be thousands that are better than the majority of those in the current abomination of an auction.

wot;4523079... decent names that had previously been rejected are blocked from being submitted....[/QUOTE said:
EXACTLY! Since their generic rejection reason is so vague, a number of factors could have changed which allow for a name to be re-examined and potentially chosen in the future. But they wont.

In fact, the entire process is a black box. There is no one to speak to about this at Sedo. Customer service doesnt want to deal with it and passes it on to some area which never gives a straight answer. I am serious when I say that they are going the route of Afternic. Afternic was once a great place to buy and sell domains and now it plain old sucks.

I am fearing that Sedo will develop its own online user interface like Afternic did and fully destroy themselves but hopefully I will have found a better solution by then. Or maybe develop my own. There is always room for competition...... ;)

The link for the GreatDomains Auction has disappeared from Sedo.com's page. Where has it gone? I called them and they say they are aware of the problem. But this is not the solution, is it?

No any picking, they just sell auction-slotsโ€ฆ
Even more, some TLDs are totally blocked to participate in GD: .pro/.asia/.in etc.

p.s. I parked all my domains @GOLEM.EU and already got 2 bidders during the first 2 weeks.
@Sedo I had 1 bidder per month in average.

I did an experiment. You know how you get the rejection notice at precisely 3PM (eastern time zone USA)? Well, at 2:55PM I submitted 5 fairly decent (compared to some of the garbage that has been approved) and all were rejected only 5 minutes later.

Hows that for a selection process? I think its ridiculous to even think that a fair analysis is being done. Their rejection criteria is so generic, so vague, it allows them to reject for almost any reason and never have to answer to it. However........ I do understand that its THEIR system... THEIR rules. I get that.

Maybe its time to design, develop and implement a better auction system. Its not rocket science.

Because rejection is automated.
Only selling of GD-slots is manual.
