Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

Hi,

I have recently come across to sedo park pages that display the sellers personal email on them. Why would sedo do this? I can't find this option inside my sedo account. Maybe these pages were altered by the domain owner to add extra information.

Here is an example:
traumpreise dot eu

What do you think?

He's probably a big portfolio holder/buyer/seller or even another branch/arm of sedo perhaps ?? There's a few of them on Sedo where they can contact the owner direct, another one that does it is domains owned by domcollect (which is a subsiduary of sedo).

I very much doubt you will find that option in your control panel, sedo are brokers and they don't want you (or most people) cutting them out of the picture, thats why they monitor any communication between buyer and seller.

Power and Money talks ;)

Hello I just received an email from a person at SEDO (a manager) asking if I wanted to put one of my domains in a premium auction.

Does anyone here have experience with the premium auctions? This will be my first one.

Thanks in advance for the helpful info

I guess you have a good domain name. I would go for the premium auction if I were you.

Question About Selling on Sedo (.co Domains)

Hello everyone,

First let me say that this is an awesome forum. I have stumbled upon this site several times in Google searching for information on selling domains.

I recently got about 150 something ".co" domains. I have sold domains before (mostly on eBay). However, I recently signed up through Sedo to sell them. I just have a few questions regarding the best strategies to use on Sedo.

1. If you get a good offer, should you accept or send to auction? I have read several blogs and posts where people suggest that sending to auction upsets buyers a lot and ends in non-paying bidders. So is it best to simply accept and counter with a buyer directly, and avoid auctions?

2. Should you actually try to price the domain (or set a minimum offer amount), or should you leave it blank and allow offers to come to you. The reason I ask is because so far I have left it blank, and my first offer was a wimpy $120 offer (which wouldn't even cover my costs of Sedo fees & domain registration).

So if anyone can give me any advice on the above 2 questions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

if you have a good offer accept it in my opinion, sending a .co to auction would just delay the inevitable outcome of the first offer is your only offer.

Hello Newb,

Welcome to namepros first off.

To address your questions I would say:

A) If you are new to SEDO then I suggest you set your min
offer at the amount you will accept. As you learn the value
of your names then you can work with the offers a bit more.

B) If you want to give the bidder an option of taking a name
to auction then you can word your "for sale" page to include
instructions to get your answer.

EI
"A bid of $$$ will send the name to auction"
"A bid of $$$$ or higher will be considered for purchase."

This way the bidder knows they have a clear way of indicating
if they are NOT willing to participate in an auction. Another
way is to counter offer and in that offer you can include the
option for them to counter again to buy or push to auction.

EI

"Thank you for your offer however at this time We/I am unable
accept your offer. We can accept a counter offer of $$$$ or
if you would like to send the name to auction we can accept
an offer of $$$$."

"Thank you again for you interest and please let me know if I
can be of further assistance"

Giving the buyer as many options as possible helps all parties.
By asking in some way if you can help or assist you leave an
open door for negotiations as well as being professional, polite
and shrewd.

Good luck and again welcome to namepros.

Sedo featured vs showcase question

Can someone comment on the difference/advantage of listing a domain as featured domain vs category showcase listing on Sedo? Obviously there's a difference in price tag, but what would be your criteria to choose one over the other?:|

I'm interested in hearing about this, too. I'm currently testing out the Category Showcase on two of my domains (computers24.de and sports-cars.co), but I have yet to see any change in traffic. They both appear under the specific category where they're listed (Computers:Hardware and Business:Automotive:Retail, respectively), as well as the parent categories.

I'm guessing the Featured Domains get way more traffic. But then again, sometimes when you're searching and the list of featured names appears, it looks like too many names. It's distracting to have to look through a list of thousands of seemingly unrelated names.

Offer received on a newly registered domain

I've just received an offer on a domain registered for less than 60 days, which is currently at Mitsu.in - In your opinion, is it OK to ask the other party that I can send them the domain ONLY via a push to their account at Mitsu.in?

How many days can I receive payment from Sedo

Hello,

I want to ask how many days can I receive payment from Sedo normally after all the transfer procedures having done.
I have contacted with the transfer agent for ONE WEEK, but got only TWO response. Did they only work for two days in a week ?
Before I transferred the domain they are very enthusiastic but things now changed after I finished all the transfer.

Sedo - First purchase

Hi,

I have purchased my first domain through sedo at fixed price. I have transferred my money to sedo via paypal. The next step was apparently to request an invoice, so I have done this too.

Now, im not really sure what happens next. Do I have to wait for the owner to respond? Is there a chance that the owner wont respond, and that the transaction wont go through? Ive looked up the domain on whois and it says:

Email: [email protected]

So im guessing I cant contact him directly through the whois.

Do I just wait? Sorry for all the questions, its just im a bit on edge since its my first purchase.

Just have to wait. Once you make your payment, SEDO will instruct the seller to initiate the transfer. It has always been a fairly quick process for me (within days start to finish) except when the buyer is a deadbeat and doesn't pay or has to get their money together first.

There is always a chance that the buyer/seller won't respond and there is nothing much that sedo will/can do about it other than refund your payment but again it is too soon to speculate on any downside.

Just be patient....

---------- Post added at 11:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:31 AM ----------

also, keep in mind that you purchased it at a fixed price and the seller will not receive payment until he/she makes the transfer.

That said I'm sure you will get your domain very soon (take into consideration SEDO response time and TIMEZONE of the seller as well)

Ok. Thank you. Im quite impatient, but ill stick with it for a few days and see if I can get anywhere.

The risk of a seller backing out of a fixed price transaction are pretty small imo. They set the price after all. The risk is usually that a buyer doesn't come through.

Remember that it is summer and people may be on vacation and away from a computer. Give it some time.

Inside the transfer centre you can post a message and ask your transfer agent whether the seller has responded.

I sold a .md domain once. Waiting for payment from when Sedo said they were going to pay, until they actually did was about 5 weeks.
I also sold a .org about a month after that and had the money within the week.

So to answer your question... no idea.

Although as biggie says, if you're worried (or need the money!) phone them up and harass them for payment .

Sedo can pay you until they receive payment from the sellers, it's common sense.

Hello,

As others have responded, they will not process payment until they receive payment from the buyer.

Your payment transfer can also come to you at anytime. I've received payments as fast as 3 days (in the bank) after a sale and as long as 9 days after a sale. You will hear different experiences from other board members but mostly if the buyer is on the up and up your payment will come fairly quick and reasonable.

I'm not an advocate for SEDO in anyway but think the process is the norm outside or direct sales.

For example, I have a domain that the buyer is prolly not going to pay. In most cases, if the buyer truly wants the domain they issue that payment immediately upon winning the auction or agreeing to purchase so that they may have use of the said domain. This buyer in particular is on their 3rd day without issuing payment. There is little SEDO can do about it other than suspend/warn deadbeats. Here is a response filed in my transfer center at SEDO on this situation:

Payment status
Please be informed that we have contacted the buyer in regards to the outstanding escrow payment that is needed in order to proceed with the transfer. You will be contacted immediately upon receipt of more information.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Is SEDO the worst?

I've been selling and listing domains on SEDO since '07. For the past several months I have grown increasingly weary of their process.

I have submitted great domains to them for premium auctions yet they get rejected. In the same auction, there will be ridiculous domains that have little to no verifiable value, etc. This burns repeatedly....

To take it one step further, I have submitted 2 domain names over the past 2 - 5 months...the 2 domains both begin with "php..." well each time the domains were rejected for auction.

FASTFORWARD to June/July...I allowed the 2 said domains to expire at name and one was picked up in their "expiring names" area...imagine my surprise and shock when I see one of the domains NOW listed in the upcoming PREMIUM DOMAIN AUCTION at SEDO. This is the same domain name that SEDO has rejected at least 2/3 times with the most recent being in June for the Premiumn Auction.

I contacted them just to be like WTF?!?!? and I just received the standard link to how domains quality plays a role and possible how recent the domain was registered as well was in the reasoning....HELLO.......

Finished my rant, just makes me lose it at times............
