Sedo - $150 scandal

Hey there guys,

I had a $160 offer for a domain on sedo.com earlier today and I was shocked to find out Id have to pay $150 sedo fees for this name, leaving me with $10. Id actually have lost money as it was $12 transfer fee aswell! But sedo taking 93% of the offer is little short of disgraceful.

Any views :'(

i dont have a clue. I have emailed sedo just now and waiting for reply. It is a name with the .sc extension but should that make any difference? It was a low offer anyway as ive already had offers of 500 for it outside sedo.

!!! CRAZY--But on their SEDO site it says the following
Listing a Domain on Sedo Free!
.com/.net/.org/.info/.biz/.us/.name/.li/.be/
.dk/.de/.at/.ch/.tv/.ws/.mx/.in/.cc/.to 10% of the sales price
[ minimum $50ยน ]
.co.uk****/.fr/.es/.nl/.ca/.se/.pl 10% of the sales price
[ minimum $100 ]
other domains 10% of the sales price
[ minimum $150 ]
ยน No minimum fee if the domain is parked with Sedo; only the flat 10% rate applies.

it is parked on sedo so that decreases fees aswell. Sedo have some explaining to do :guilty:

Like I said... This is what it says on the sedo site-I cut and pasted it so it is quite clear

yes. Sedo's minimum fee for "other" extensions is $150 minimum per domain. Its there on their fee page.

They have different fee rates for different extensions. The $50 thing & the 10% (if parked) dont go with all domains.

They have different schemes for TLDs, some premium ccTLDs, and other ccTLDs.

that is ridiculous. Is there any other site to sell my domain on as Im not paying $150 to sell it!

About Sedo

Is this something new?

Wow...thats not good :( Time to re-evaluate...i was going to anyway as Sedo still wont allow a buyer to search on one or two letters so my "3G" and "24" domains have zero chance of selling there.

Not good for buyers too - may explain why i rarely get lucky when i bid < $200 for odd extensions. Basically also devalues reg'ing lesser known TLDs unless its serious keywords i guess.

Interesting.

Yup - they've been saying that since i first reported it in November. I reported it again early January and get the response "we're sorry we'll look into it" but still nothing has happened. i think it's time....

Hmm.. thats not good, but did u have the domain parked at sedo or was it only brokerage of the domain? And is the deal through yet?

I agree that $150 is an awful lot to take on commission for such a modest sale. However, you need to be careful to read the fine print and now before you accept an offer what your fees will be.

So park it at Sedo for a little bit.

That will enable the 10%-only.

Has anyone tried waiting for an offer to come through, then changing your DNS to park at Sedo so that when you accept the sale you can get the 10%? I am not positive this would work, but it may be worth a try.

It's not a "scandal".

A ridiculously high commission? YES. But not a scandal.

You agreed to the terms. If you didn't read the terms, you have nobody but yourself to blame.

For the record, I ran into a similar situation on an extension in the "other" category (.IN) and was told by 2 different SEDO reps that the fees are being adjusted soon on the Indian names, and a few more in the "other" category that do not require extra time or (paper)work.
