Hello NamePros community! We are creating a single thread where we can share announcements in, talk about product updates, people can ask questions and host a great discussion on all things domains!

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

They are polite but rarely resolve anything.
This is very accurate.
Polite but useless is what they are.

Imagine a fully developed registrar with a key aspect of their operations (Payment processing) malfunctioning for more than a week.

And all they can do is tell you:
This is being looked into by our advanced dev team.
Renewals are failing and domain names are about to expire and become lost forever.

Plus, their payment issue is not even new. It's been a persistent problem for a long time.

I've already lost 2 domain names to their problem.

Their reaction?
A lackadaisical apology and a refund.

First it was my account, then when I replicated it in a new and subsequent google searchbars it took me into 4 different user accounts where I could see their full account portfolios after a brief redirect page.
Scary stuff!

A bad actor could wreak havoc with such access.

Such level of security breach is unfathomable. Yet I have ZERO doubt it's something that could have happened multiple times at SAV.

Plus, a MASSIVE security failure like that is something that should have be announced or communicated to their customers so that they would review their portfolios to confirm that there was nothing amiss.

But Sav failed to do that.
Typical!

I bet when you reported the issue they designated it "High Priority 1", then it took them several days to resolve it.

At this point it feels like Sav.com's main business is offering glitches while domain names is just their side hustle.

I permanently have more than 10 open tickets.
Some of them months old.

Like the one I m asking them for the price changes from 1/1/2025:ROFL:

Their system is a mess right now:
"There was a widespread issue affecting overall functionality in Sav."

You don't get the domains you win an auction.
You don't get the domains you caught in backorders.
Afternic's fast transfer is not working.
You see 0 domains, in the new domain management page.
The new cart is not working.
You don't get receipts for renewing domains.
You can't list domains in their marketplace.
etc
etc
etc

I hope you can get your domains out and transfer away successfully. No point renewing there if that's how they treat it.
I am so glad I left.

It happened on Sunday afternoon (UK time zone) and I think they acted quite quickly because within a couple of hours of reporting it to them, searching the name no longer accessed a SAV account though it still did the weird redirect into the new account interface but by then the main panel displayed a 404 notice instead of being able to click on ''domains'' and display somebody's portfolio.

I have had further problems since then in that when I went back into my account none of my domains showed - I thought they had all gone. I asked chat what was going on and was told I had to click on 'legacy' view/portfolio which switched me from the new domain manager back to the old interface where I could see my domains. From reading this thread and my own experience on Sunday, they are not somewhere I want to hold domains anymore.

On my iPhone, I couldn’t log in because the site wouldn’t accept the two-factor authentication code.

Legacy login only works:

Issue is related to this:

Hello! I apologize for the delayed response. I'm currently managing a high volume of chats. We're experiencing a significant system-wide issue, which is causing many functions to not work properly. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

This includes the functions of Domain transfer out approval. I will need to escalate this request to our advanced support team for further assistance. A new support ticket will be created shortly next to your message/chat pop-up. You will be notified in the same ticket and via email.

I sold a name yesterday and had to have support unlog the name so we could start the transfer - I got an email from the buyer that the transfer was started, but I didn't get any email from Sav that could confirm it and today I had to contact support again and manually get them to start and expedite the transfer and the name is now with the buyer.

You're dealing with a zombie business that is surviving on auctions and registration revenue.

I bet even some of the staff feel a bit embarrassed working there and would like to say what really goes on there.

Also, I'm finding even changing nameservers results in persistent errors.

I transferred all my domains out several months ago, but still have to deal with domains I win from auctions.

Last night I won a name on Sav auctions and it never appeared in my account after paying for it. Talked to chat and they will be opening a ticket shortly - which hasn't happened yet 12 hours later.

Oops. Is it Sav registered or external domain by any chance?

It's a Sav registered name. First thing I checked :)

Won an expired domain at auction, paid, but did not receive the domain, 10 days have passed, the problem is still not resolved
It's been a month, and I still haven't received the domain. Every time I contact them via chat, they just tell me to wait for a response from support in the ticket.

That's INSANE!

SAV complicates everything and make ordinary registrar processes look like rocket science.

If the domain name is registered at Sav.com, like 99% of their expired auctions, then all it takes to get you the domain name is a PUSH and a RENEWAL.
That's it!

How SAV manages to bungle that super simple task for a whole MONTH is mind-boggling.

By the way, have you checked the Whois details to confirm that the domain name is still with SAV?

Could have expired and been caught by someone else.

Not a good look.
I am not optimistic that you'll get the domain name.
Here's what a domain lifecycle looks like according to ICANN:
gtld-lifecycle.jpg

SAV already gives registrants about 30-days grace period to renew an expired domain name. And they run their expired auction for 5 days.

So that's about 35 days out of the 45 days available grace period. So at the end of the auction, only about 10 days was left in the grace delete period.

Now that Sav has failed to renew and transfer the domain name to you for more than a month, the domain name is squarely in the redemption period with about a week left before entering pending delete.

Redeeming the domain name would cost SAV money. They have to pay a redemption fee to Verisign and they can't charge you for it.

SAV has 2 options:

1. Act fast, bear the cost of the redemption fee and deliver the domain name to you.

2. Give you a lousy apology and a refund.

Knowing SAV, their choice is obvious.

Best thing is to backorder the domain name if you really like it and believe it's worth it.
