Retrieving WHOIS

How can I create a script to retrieve WHOIS information? Basically, I found a way to develop a piece of code that gets the underlying WHOIS, but how do I get the WHOIS of a domain that includes the registrant's address, email, etc part?

Is there a service out there that I can use and connect to in my own code so that I can run a site such as whois.sc?

Somebody please fill me in.

I think you may need to look up information on public whois servers. You can connect to them by connecting to port 43 of their server. This is how websites such as mine and whois.sc or whatever it's called nowadays work.

In short, queries are performed directly and we then format the results for display purposes.
