PrimeWebsites.com sold for $750 on Sedo. When I put the name for appraisal here on the forums, nobody replied and thought that it had no value.

Nobody will understand the value of your name except for you.. just saying..

Thanks

Well said

For some knowledge, can i ask why you backordered this domain? i mean, how do you know that this domain is worth something?
bcoz, may be i will skip the name. Also when i googled , not much results except the vapor map(.)com (If this is your buyer , ok)

May be your answer will teach me something in selecting valuable domain names

Congratz for the Quick Flip &

thanks for sharing :)

you will need imagination and some business sense to find value in such word combinations..
vapor map could be a website/service displaying all vapor shops closeby your area on virtual maps.. there might be demand for it as right now such vapor shops are not around every corner yet.

plus: as google will reveal there is already a developed website on the longer domain thevapormap.com so he did the right thing by grabbing it *thumbs up*
especially as also the plural vapormaps.com is taken and ready to launch soon.. could also have been the buyer, trying to secure the singular as well..

I backordered it because of 2 reasons:
1) <keyword>Map.com domains sell well, usually into low-middle $x,xxx (HempMap.com sold for $10k recently, among similar others)
2) I had the TheVaporMap // com website in mind

I contacted the owner of the thevapormap website explaining him the importance of removing that initial "the" and upgrading to vapormap but he just responded with one lukewarm "how much" and never cared for any further response. This was a good opportunity for him but he bungled up on it. There could be many reasons as to why he didn't choose to respond.

At this point, the actual buyer contacted me. As far as I know, this buyer does not seem to be related to owner of thevapormap in any way.

This is a great name. Had I kept it a little longer, it could have sold easily for $2500+ but I was getting a quick sale so I counter-offered $750 which was accepted.

Hope that answers you. But there are no hard and fast rules in domain sales. It's mostly luck if you want to make quick sales, good keywords with good traffic otherwise.

Wanque.com - $1,500

Picked the domain up on Namejet for less than $100 as a brandable but after I started receiving a number of email inquiries from Chinese buyers I found out it's Pinyin for something along the lines of To forget, Oblivion etc. The buyer did not speak any English but I was able to close the deal by using DN.com for the escrow. They did a great job communicating between me and the buyer and helped solve several issues that occurred during the transfer process.

Tip: always check your spam folder as inquiries from Chinese buyers usually end up there. Use Google translate to read the emails and reply with a very short email that includes asking price and mention of DN.com for the escrow.
