What's interesting is that GoDaddy / Afternic send me the payment, for both domains, in 8-12 hours, after I got their standard email "Good news, the transfer of XXXXXX.com to the buyer has completed!"

I had this parked at NS3/4.afternic.com. I lowered the price from $995 to $795 a month ago, and a GoDaddy broker reached out offering $400. I told them I'd take $599, and they got the buyer up to that after 2 days. I'm very happy with GoDaddy brokers in general.

This is kind of a dopey sale but I'll take it. I was surprised I regged this name to be honest - it doesn't fit my normal patterns and I am not into King Arthur or anything like that. But I spend about 2 seconds looking at each name, so here we are.

Interesting: my drop catching script tried to reg this domain for nearly 3 months before it worked. For a month it was getting an "in use" error from Namecheap (this happens when the domain is no longer appearing in WHOIS but for whatever reason hasn't dropped yet). Then for the next month the errors said the domain was "reserved", and then finally it let me register it for $2.

I have never seen that before, but I rarely look at the logs until something sells so maybe this is common. But if anyone knows what "reserved" means in the xyz domain lifecycle for a non-premium name, I'd be very interested.

A cautionary tale. It was premium renewal (800-1200/yr depending on registrar). Had about 1 low-ball offer a month, also one mid X,XXX but buyer backed out last minute. I believe transfer price played a role.

Now I know high premium renewals are huge gamble with your money and will stay away.
