It continues to aggravate me every time domain investors are characterized as "squatters". This morning I read an interesting article about something called "The New Internet". In the article, two things caught my eye....

Businesses and individuals/communities looking to purchase a domain on The New Internet, as well as the internet domain market overall, will benefit from the security of the platform due to the authenticated nature of all users. Here's how:

  • Businesses - Since all users on The New Internet are authenticated, businesses know who are really visiting their sites, granting access to more accurate analytics about their online customers without having to worry about bots skewing results of online ads and more.
  • Individuals and Communities - In addition to enhanced site analytics, security and pricing, individuals and communities have the added benefit of unique and creative expression when choosing their domain and extension -- for example, "first name.last name" style options offer a more personal way to market yourself and group.
  • The Domain Market - Current domain owners on the "old internet" have the chance to purchase their domain name on The New Internet as well. Authenticated Reality is also addressing the issue of domain squatting by allowing the purchase of domains on The New Internet that are currently parked by squatters on the old internet.
"When we heard that The New Internet was opening domain names on the platform, we saw this as a great opportunity...

Not sure how they plan to do this, but it sounds weird. What do you think of this whole idea?

I see this going bust too. Are people really going to send in their Driver's Licenses to browse the web? Hackers would have a field day. I see the concept, but in reality it seems weird.

Well if that's what they are trying to do, sell third level domain names, good luck with that, competing against 1,000 TLD's! Good Grief!

Sounds like a farce.

Wasn't the sale of thenewinternet.com @ Sedo reported just recently? $14k or something.

Anyway, to me it seems that they're not that in tune with the Internet in general in the first place. Real users. Real identities. All the crap you browse directly linked to your ID. Who doesn't want that?

Gee, I would be willing to bet I could find a picture of a fake (or real) drivers license online. Then I just need to create a Social login. Yep, it's that secure that you can't use a fake persona.

If they were partial owners, then there would be NO competition and they could keep the domains forever. (Brilliant, actually, although possibly a monopoly.)

people stop using the term "squatters".

Domain Name Investment (doesn't exist in economic education) vs Domain Name Trade, Exchange and Interdependence.

Investor - putting money into a business or project to make more money.

DN Realtor?
DN Jobber?

TheNewInternet.com

We better squat on it real fast before they register it for legitimate business!!

By the way, who owns the land your house sits on? What about the person before him? The government sold all the land and we buy and sell the properties after the fact. Domain Names are Domain Properties, if you want a million dollar property then you have to be prepared to pay for it.... period.

So if I understand this right the new internet are the new gTLD's?

Domain Names are Domain Properties

Internet / Web Property is your website - presence. The Domain name is just the name that represent all kinds of things/properties. You are a renter.

No, it's this website that has their own Internet, I think. I don't freakin know. It's confusing to me.

And if you don't pay your taxes, the property you "own" gets taken away. (Real estate and domains)

They probably thought this would revolutionize the internet (within the internet). But really, it's just another stupid idea that won't stick.

So how does one surf the 'new internet'?

Confusing as hell, watched a few videos. Heard about downloading some browser.

Watched this video -

Didn't know FB cloning was an issue and then people would need to download some browser? That hasn't worked in the past. Reminds of of late 90's/early 2000's internet.

Can't figure out the point to any of it. Download browsers and then "real-time validation via driver's license" Give up your driver's license? People generally aren't jumping thru those kind of hoops.
Failure written all over it.
