.mobi Renew your mobi for only 50¢ per domain

It will be nice marketing if Godaddy was advertising something like the following : «If you have regged your mobi with us between Sept 2006 and June. 2007, it will cost you only 50 ¢ to renew it with us !»

Godaddy will make money because domainers will not let their domains dropped.

In your dreams... I'm afraid.

It's not The likes of Godaddy / Moniker that take the Lions share of the fee; it's mTLD in Dublin, Ireland. The registrars simply stick a few cents on top of whatever deal mTLD can offer them at any given time.. (at least that's my understanding of the situation).. As far as I am aware the Big Boys offer such competitive prices because of the volume they handle; I don't know that they make even a $1 per name per annum?

In fact, they probably would make more if you let them drop, then they would auction them off in tdnam, which unlike registration fees, does go directly into their coffers.

The larger registrars set their renewals to the bare minimum. They make their money off of hosting, appraisals, auctions etc..
