Renew a banned domain?

I purchased a domain name through an auction on here a few months ago. Unfortunately because I felt I had a use for the name, I didn't research it well and after I bought it I found out Google had banned it for some reason.

I haven't tried to contact them about getting the ban lifted yet, not sure if they would. But the question is should I just let it drop? Or renew it and try and get the ban removed?

Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure if you can just unban a domain name - you'll have to develop it first and then submit a reconsideration request.

No idea how long it takes or what the success rates are.

It really depends on what you intended to do with the name in the first place - if you are going to put up an authentic site and not engage in any black-hat tactics, then you should be able to get back into Google.

However, it also helps to check if you can find anything that would give you an idea of what the domain was used for before. If it already has a bad history and is redflagged by other programs and mentioned negatively on other websites - then it may just as well be better to start the site on a alternative/fresh domain name.

I used a simple WP site with only one FOR SALE page. Added it to Webmaster tools and submitted a reconsideration request. In 2 weeks the ban has been lifted. This is done by humans, so you have to wait even more than 2 weeks.

Thanks for the link RazorNF. The plan was to develop a site, no black hat tactics. Guessing from the 1,500 or so backlinks the domain has I think that has something to do with it getting banned.

I am concerned that with all of the backlinks, a lot from questionable sites, that no matter what I try and do I won't get quality traffic or be able to clear the domain of a bad rep so to speak.

Thanks for the info Shelby90 I assumed it would be harder to get a ban lifted.

Thanks for the feedback

You might have to disavow a lot of the bad links.

I thinking the domain isn't worth all the work to find each bad site that's linking to it and request the link removed.

1,500 or so sites probably 1,000 are not good. That's a lot of emails.

You use the disavow tool, you don't request for each link to be removed manually.

Don't know what that is. That would definitley make it easier. I'll google it for more info.

Thanks for the information. It's a big help.

I agree with what's been said. If you put up a legit website then Google will eventually lift the ban.

If the name has significant value otherwise, develop it in some way and submit reconsideration down the road. If it's just a decent name without much sales potential even if it wasn't banned, then just let it drop and use the renewal money on something else.
