Just wondering. Would you register a .us domain when you already own the .com version?
Is there any advantage to doing so?

I wouldnt but I do see it as possible future proofing.
If youre a US company with a business built on the .com then it makes sense to register the .us if available.

The real truth is that if you have the .com you pretty much have it sewn up.

Unfortunately, the USA is really .com blinkered and the .us is still very much in the infancy despite the hype you keep hearing. The USA is one of the few Countries not to adopt it's own TLD, believing .com is the US TLD!

Other countries TLDs are very important.
If you're UK based for example then it is possibly even more worthwhile bagging the .co.uk version as it is so well used in the UK.

Case in point, slimming.com just sold for IIRC $185,000.
Do you think they will come after the .us version AT ALL !?
Well, we have slimming.us and we are not holding our breath....

I do firmly believe this will all change. Give it a couple of more years and the .us will become more prevalent in the US public psyche. THEN there will be a stronger case of having the .us as well.
I just dont believe that people will actually EVER type the .us BEFORE the .com when doing a type in unless fundamentals change. One positive spin is Neustar doing the zip code development. This should, at the very least, mean .us will now stay around and should be evermore saved from the fear of mediocrity. :xf.love:
