Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out, GoDaddy cant seem to.

I've let a few, about 15, of my names recently drop. I wanted all but one of them to drop.. I accidentally let one slip through.. :(.. ohh well .. it happens. I got recieved all of the renewal notices but didn't pay much "notice" to them..

All of the names I've let drop have been removed from my account on GoDaddy and that was that.

The other day I recieved an email from GoDaddy Support, titled Cancellation Confirmation.:::

Dear XXXXXXX

Per your request, the items listed below have been cancelled
from your account, XXXXXXX
.COM Domain Name Registration - 1 Year: xxxxx.com

If you feel this cancellation has occurred in error or you need
further assistance, our support staff is available 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week via:

Thanks again for being a GoDaddy.com customer.

Sincerely,
GoDaddy.com

This email was only titled for one of my DNs that I had let drop, and it was the name that I really didn't want to let drop. I immedietly checked the whois and noticed someone else has it.

I'm confused because a few of my other names that I let drop, a week or two before xxxxx.com are still in the redemption period. And other former names of mine that are now available for registration, I never recieved the above e-mail for from GoDaddy.

I called GoDaddy and they put me on hold for about 3 minutes. Then asked me the names of some of my other DNs that I let drop.. I was then put back on hold for another 2 minutes.. . The operator then told me that he thinks I may get the "cancellation" emails for my other dropped DNs soon.

I asked him if ICANN regulates the redemption and deletion periods/timeframes for domain names and he said that they "no, well they sort of do"?

He didn't know why my other names dropped after xxxxx.com were still in redemption and xxxx.com was taken already. Nor did he know much about ICANN..

He offered to put me on hold again... I said.. Is this a TOLL-FREE # that I'm calling? He said uhm.... I don't think so..

I said.. thanks but I'm waisting both of our time..
Bye.

Does anybody understand my question here>> LOL

Thanks.

I may be totally wrong on this as I have only bought a couple of drops ages ago from GoDaddy....anyway, here goes

I think GoDaddy names start to get listed to be auctioned off (at TDNam)even before they actually drop < which I don't like.

As far as I can remember even after it has been bought by someone else there is a grace period where the previous owner can still get it back, I'm not sure how long but I think it may be 30 days, you will need to check on that.

This is off the TDNam website

How does the Expired Name Auction Model work?

"Last Updated: December 2, 2005 - This Article Items listed in the Expired Name Auction section of the Domain Name Aftermarket are recently expired domains registered with us. While the current registrant can renew the domain after the successful ending of an auction, this is very rare."

"If you are the successful bidder on an expired domain, and the current domain registrant renews the domain within the redemption grace period, you will be notified via email and all your funds will be refunded to you within six business days. You will receive an email notice once the refund has been processed. If you do not receive an email notification within six business days, you may contact the Domain Name Aftermarket at (480) 505-8892."

I suggest you read up on the following page to find out more

Good luck - Hope this helps

I would agree with above.

I would also ask why are you counting on Redemption period for grace rather then just paying the 7-8 dollars to renew ahead of time?

LOL I'm a procrastinator:) And, as I said in the original post, it drop with some other names that I wanted to drop... I didn't notice this one in the group.

No Biggie though, was just curious about others' experiences and the regulations on drops and redemption periods..

P.S. I think that is what happend, they sold the name on TDNAM.com before the redemption period was over... Then, they sent me that e-mail, only for this name, on the last day of redemption.. Sly...

The answer

At Godaddy, the process is as follows:

Domain Expires:

+12 Day Grace Renewal Period (Regular Renewal)
- Domain Listed on TDNAM (10 days)
+30 Redemption ($80)

(numbers are approximate, but very close)

After the redemption period is over, if the domain is sold at TDNAM, it is moved into their account on the 42nd-45th day after expiration.

ex: Domain (just purchased today at TDNAM)

Expired: 3/20
Will be mine on: 5/2

44 Days after expiration, Domain is mine.

I'd tell GoDaddy you want to redeem the domain and see where that gets you.

I just talked to a GoDaddy rep today to see if he can tell me when a .us that is currently in "pending delete" status will drop.

He said that because the name is reg'd with Enom that it could be up to 75 days from the point it drops until it is available.

But the name is currently in the "pending delete" status, isn't there a time limit on how long a name can be in this status?

How do I find out when the name will drop? It expired near the end of May.

I just found another name that is really confusing me.

The name is a NICE name. DomainTools.com says it is available. GoDaddy WhoIs info says that it is reg'd with GoDaddy and expired on May 27th, 2007 and is in a "pending delete" status.

Why is it still pending delete? The name expired 75 days ago?

Also to top it off, the name is listed for sale at TDNAM with 20 days left in the listing, no bids.

It seems that GoDaddy and the other registrars just will not let a good/premium name drop, I've had a couple of my own names that I let drop get picked up by GoDaddy and renewed for a year. (seems shady to me)

Where can I find the Laws for redemption periods and pending delete periods.???
