There is a domain I want which expired June 23, 2005 and is currently in "Redemption Period". I know (I think) a redemption period is 30 days, but from which date? Obviously not from the expiration date... does anyone know when this name should be availble to register? Thanks for any insight.

"30 days" is more of a guideline then a rule. Registrars can stretch this indefinitely. 3 months in average (from my experience).

So true, for now.....I am sure this will be changing soon though.

Most, you have to wait 90 days for the redemption period to end.

Ya Thats mainly what I have seen in my limited time in the domain industry.... keep it as a basic rule of thumb!

Thanks for the info. Are there any tools available to monitor a particular domain to see when the redemption period is over?

Depends on the registrar...some could be as easy as setting up a monitoring script...

I've been waiting for Zetatalk.com to expire (if ever... *sigh*) and tell whoever will to snatch it.. Basic site with 20 MILLION Uniques Monthly (I think) Apparently so have others, thus I came across the information that it will take 90 days after expiration :lala:

Gene, check the last updated date on the domain's registry. Count 30 days
from that.

And don't forget freewho's checker. ;)

some naughty registrars renew the good unclaimed domains and keep them for themselves

whois.sc

but if the name is good there may be namecatchers waiting for the drop (they want to take it from you :yell: )
Since the expiry was about 75 days ago I would expect the name to drop soon. Check the name from time to time, especially when it enters PENDINGDELETE status then it will be released within 5 days.
