Hey guys,

I was wondering what would be the best option for developing a site that would include a Forum, Directory, and WIKI. I saw on the top of the list that there is a CMS called TIKI WIKI, which includes all of those functions, but I have never heard of it before.

If anyone can share any experience with TIKI WIKI, that would be great. As for other options, I have a little experience with joomla, and was looking into using it and then adding extensions like Fireboard and their directory, etc.

But what I wanted to know, is if someone had any experience with this and could recoomend using one or the other, or possibly bridging a PHPBB or SMB to the joomla, and what directory or wiki to add.

I am also interested in a directory and forum with sufficient features or modification abilities.

thanks

if you got the money to do it then get joomla and a vbulletin forum, as well as the joomla bridge
if you DONT have the money for a vbulletin go with phpbb3

here's a link to the joomla connector (bridge between vbulletin or other apps)
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=101761
might be hard to install properly but if you think it's worth it then do it
personally i runn joomla + phpbb3 without a bridge

...
from there develop your site and integrate the wiki/dicitionary later on with help of your visitors

sOliver, thanks for the info. Since I barely know much about Forum, or do I know if I need a bridge, should i go with phpbb3 instead of the fireboard?

Basically, what you've done is placed the phpbb3 in a subdomain? and operate them separately? That might be the way to go.

I guess you could do as well a phpld in another subdomain.

Anyways, thanks for the input

A bridge would be nice for your users so that they don't have to register two times.. but if they really want to contribute to your cms and maybe post things there they will register. Some people will register at your cms only, some only at your forums (thats my experience).

However a bridge is more professional, but hard to realize.

phpbb3 is very user-friendly and yes I would even say that the new phpbb is better than the current vbulletin and the best thing is - it's free :D
Fireboard is a joomla extension right ? I'd say it might be a good extension but not a "proper" forum for many users.
But visit a live phpbb and a live fireboard forum and then decide. And don't forget to try the admin panel.
I'm curious myself now, I might try fireboard in the next days.
Just my tip: Install both on your server - set some settings here and there and see what you like better. If you don't like fireboard deavtivate it and use phpbb in a subdomain or just in a folder e.g. www.domain.com/forums/

Postnuke - wiki, and a directory are part of the core and the forum module works great and is simple as pie to install once you have postnuke installed. Better security than wordpress and joomla with more easy to add options in your case.

I think with almost all applications you will need a little help from a programmer to bridge together the user logins. It usually is not too difficult (1-2 hours work). We have done bridges from phpLD to other apps quite a few times now.
