Question about CMS and forum bridging

During my research on cms software, I have come across some that have mods/bridges that support sharing the users when installing certain forum software.

Can these apps work in reverse? For example, if you had a forum running and then later decided to implement a CMS portal, can you use the bridge to migrate the users over to the CMS?

What are the implications if you had originally installed the forum in the root, rather than in the traditional "forum" subdirectory. How easy is it to move a forum to operate off a new directory?

That said, if you do have a forum running off a sub directory, what would have to be done on the server to make it appear to be running off the root of the domain?

Thanks in advance.

I have a few installations of SMF and was thinking of adding Joomla to it.

It appears that a number of Joomla-based sites that I have found are using SMF with a "bridge" application, rather than use Joomla's Fireboard forum extension. Interested to hear what other's experiences are in this area. Thanks.

yes certainly

I had a forum of over 200 members where I managed to get a succesful migration and importing...

I think a guy called orstion has managed a succesful bridge for joomla+smf....

While smf have now stopped the bridge distribution due to new licence of joomla.

Here is the link to orstio's bridge.I have used it personally and is very good.

You have a function of database import after installation
