Hey i put a bid on a name at a godaddy auction , i received a email saying i am the highest bidder ..... but if the owner decides to re-register over the next couple of weeks , my money will be returned to me ?????? i went to geektools and did a whois search ..... it said registered at godaddy. I did a whois search at godaddy ...... it said only names registered with godaddy are available for whois information ....... so i couldn't find the expiry date and i could win an auction that the owner may re-register the name ?????????
Has anybody had this happen to them i wonder ?? thanks for help

yes- godaddy puts up names for sale, and sells them, while they are still owned- weird eh? usually, they drop and you get it- but, should the owner rereg it in the last hour, they keep it, and godaddy refunds your money-

Prep for their Patent Pending software where they prepay the renewal for expiring domains, and then have the ability to sell back, negotiate, etc, after the name expires.

So, smash is right. They have pre-sold the name to you (provided the auction closed with you as high bidder), and should the existing owner not pay the redemption, it will be yours after 10-14 days. If the current owner pays the fees, they then refund to your account...

The original owner can only renew the name during the auction, not after. If they see the name in auction they have a choice to get it out of redemption. It costs them $60 plus renewal fees. If the name closes in auction with even one bid then they cannot renew it. You get the name 7 days after.

If so then they raised it. It was previously $60+renewal fees. Was the $80 including the renewal?

Second, someone sold you an expired name - wow no class there! :) Yikes!
