.mobi Purpose of .mobi - General question

Hi,

i'm not really sure about purpose/rules for .mobi extension.

Have seen some .mobi sites, most of them look like for mobile phones.

Question is:
Are .mobi JUST for mobile phones, or all mobile devices?

In my eyes there is difference if i develop it just for phones,
so they have (currently) smaller displays, or if i develop it for all
mobile devices, like mobile phone, PDA, iPhone .....

To answer your question... Many top .mobi developers make their .mobis functional for most mobile devices (and certainly the popular ones).

If you look at most of the .mobis (dir.mobi is a good place to see most of them) that are currently built, most have been designed for pre-Iphone phones. Generally images are kept small (because many phones have less than the 320x480 display the Iphone is blessed with), text is kept concise, and site navigation is intelligently designed with the mobile user in mind.

In the future, I believe we will see a trend towards catering to the iPhone and Smartphone market, however at present, catering exclusively to this crowd would imply alienating a significant portion of mobile traffic. As the technology advances, so too will .mobi development.

i like idea about .mobi

What i'm missing is when i open Opera or Firefox that i get some better fill of screen, some better letter resizing. I would like to know site before i try it on mobile device.
