Just received a mail from Flippa promoting listing of a website that was just a few hours old when it crossed $20k earning mark and has been talk of the town.

5 days left before the listing ends and it is already at $60000 mark with 266 pending bids!

Smart decision from the owner to sell right away as I predict this website won't sell much glitter (or anything else for that matter) after the viral traffic dies down.

fair play to the guy. He said he started the site as a side project for the laughs more than anything. Now he is gonna walk away with a serious amount of cash for less than a months work.

Got the same email.. Didn't realize the site was less than a month old. Granted it did make like $20K in one day - That will surely die off quickly like others have said, once the virility dies down.

It is unfortunate that some people are naive enough to bid on this new website auction.
It may have fake stats/traffic+the traffic won't last for more than a few weeks time.
The seller received super seller status even though he doesn't have history of sales or of anything - suspicious.
The seller may have a relation with Flippa and developed the website with their aid(Conspiracy theory but anything can happen ;)).
Speaking of prank/joke, I believe this all thing is just a prank, played on people with deep pockets.
It is too good to be true, there are too many variables that the bidders didn't consider.
How can he prove that customers were pleased with their orders(The quotes) if the website has just been established?
How does society accept such deliveries, without considering it's moral, ethical and legal aspects?
The domain has been registered on:
Creation Date: 31-dec-2014

I honestly thought this was a joke but it is def serious. Unreal, why can't I think of simple shitty ideas like this? :\ lol.

In addition to what I have mentioned earlier, there are just too many bids from new members.
I have a suspicion that the seller/someone else opened multiple new accounts and there is a shill bidding.
Furthermore, Flippa doesn't grant Super seller status so fast without sales history, so perhaps he gained this status by unnatural cause(hacking/favor from the inner circle).

That's not cool he received super seller status without history, I agree with you on that one.

I just did an article on TheDomains.com looking at two sites this being one, here is from the article this guy did an interview with Slate.com before he listed it.

From the article:

Slate: So, why do you hate glitter?

Carpenter:Iโ€™ve received Christmas and birthday cards over the years from family and friends who put glitter in the cards. I hated it, and I wanted the rest of the world to feel my pain. So thatโ€™s how the website was born.

Have you done this kind of thing before?

Iโ€™m 22 and have never been to university, but I am in Internet marketing and have worked on other sites before. The one Iโ€™ll show you now iswww.dickpicoftheweek.com. That said, I apparently have too much free time on my hands because now my plans for the next few weeks consist of sending stupid fucking glitter to terrible people.

Even though it seems obvious, run me through how this whole thing works. Do you have a glitter distributor or do you just walk down to your local craft store and buy a few hundred pounds of it?

Actually, I do have an Australian glitter supplier. People decide they want to waste money on sending someone glitter in an envelope, I get their recipientโ€™s information, hand-fill envelopes, and ship that stuff out.

It says on the Flippa listing

"After being online for only a few hours, the website had received over 2,000 orders generating just over $20,000AUD. Somewhat overwhelmed, I then decided to take the ability to order down despite receiving thousands of emails & tweets from people wanting to purchase."

If the site really has so many orders why not hire some cheap labor and fill the orders? A 5 year old can put glitter in an envelope. If someone really buys this site they are a real Sucker!!

Glitter might soon join the list of Hazardous banned substances by major shipping companies. ^^

I thought it's shill bidding war like Bettrade.com but It's real..
top bidder is worth $59.4K history..

Perfect time to sell.. unique concept.. but I will never spend $10 for my enemies..!!

Classic. A little work + Clever Marketing Strategy + Mainstream Media Coverage = Something out of nothing in less than a month!

Now let's see the same model used for something at least a tad more beneficial to humanity

Some of the bidders may believe it is worth what they are paying for and are serious buyers.
But I have a suspicion the majority of the bids over there are just shill bids.
Unfortunately that's why shill bidding may prove useful in inflating the price of a domain/website/other product if it is conducted, which might be the case with this auction :(

I think the guy is pure genius!

To those who say " he should have hired someone etc " I say I totally agree but you don't know Australians!!!!
I also agree there are way to many bids from new members that won't be paying the money but I a quite confident than the Aussie will go away with a wallet full of dollars. Good on him.
