Okay, so recently, in my Asmro.com newsletter, in the editor's note section, I discussed having premium letters versus having no premium letters. I will show what I said in the newsletter, with my opinion :) Here you go:

The Argument

The first time I heard this argument I thought it was stupid and based on no research. There are clear statistics that some letters are just better than others. I believed that a letter like "A" is under almost all circumstances better than "Z." I recently heard this argument again with more statistical information on the topic. The argument is that there are no such things as premium letters, and they are just made up by people to establish "good and bad" letters for more value. The only vaild point I can make from the argument is the language barrier.

The Problem

The problem is that in other countries, some letters are better than others. French and Spanish will have different main letters than another language like German. Now, even though the etymological roots of many of the words in these languages are the same, there are still many differences. That is the main problem with premium and non-premium letters. Anyone can tell that "A" may be a better letter than "U," but switch it to a different language and it's a whole new story.

The Opinion
Of course, I would never be telling you this for my own health. I naturally have a strong opinion on this debate. There ARE such things as premium letters. Before I jump in, let's discuss why I believe there are premium letters.

There are such domains called IDN's. They stand for International Domain Names in which they are used internationally for everyone to visit around the world. There are rarely any main language barriors with that, (I am no expert with IDN's, so please don't email me if I'm wrong.) Therefore, the language barrior argument is thrown out. But to top it off, English letters are mostly used for regular domains. I have many friends who do not live in the states and even more that I make trades with, mostly in India, Italy, and various other places. But, the majority of my trades happen within the U.S.

This is why my opinion stands at the premium letter side. If English is dominating the domain world right now, then of course there is one main language to base the letters off of. Yes, I know there is a new .asia ccTLD. Yes, I know Chinese is the most spoken language in the world. And yes, I know that America doesn't dominate the world, and same with English.

----------------------------------------

Anyways, I just wanted to get everyone else's opinion on this topic. And by the way, I won't be posting any more of my newsletters content like this (If you want to sign up for the newsletter, go to Asmro.com and enter your email in the top right corner of the banner in the assigned place)...Just wanted to post this because it was a very interesting subject, so please, post your opinions for me to see :) Thanks for reading!

So you mean, the premium letters do exist, but they are different for each country?
(e.g. letter Q may be considered premium for China, but not for America)

In this way, aren't all letters "premium" ?

Lol, here is what I mean...Z might be used in Italian more then N is used in America. But because america dominates the domaining world from what I see (English), the premium letters should be based off the english language, like it is right now :)

I think for domains like LLLL.com's and the like that premiums should be considered in packages. For example, Q may be premium in China, but lots of letters that are premium in the US are not premium in China, so a domain with a combination of those letters really has little chance of finding a home. A domain with all-premium Chinese letters, or all-premium German letters, etc., should be considered valuable even though it does not have all-premium letters in English.
