I just got an e-mail from Pool.com ([email protected]) that addressed me by name and said,

"Congratulations and thank you for using eu.pool.com! You won a .EU auction for 1.EU domain(s). Your account has been charged your winning bid(s) of EUR 60."

They go on to say I can only view the domain using a special EU login and that if I don't have one, sign up for one. (I don’t have one, but how could I have ordered the EU domain if I don't have an EU account?)

The sign-up, of course, wants all of my personal info including my credit card number. (They said they already charged my card, so why do they want it again? My card doesn't show a charge...yet.)

Some months ago, I did sign up with pool so I could view and bid on expired / back-ordered names, but I don’t remember anything about buying an EU domain, especially since I am using a USA address.

I don’t want to give out my personal info just to see what happens.

Has anyone else received e-mail like this or know what this is all about?

.US domains.US domains
Sounds fishy.. I'd contact Pool and see what they say.

People can send emails out from other email addresses. So it is probably a scam.

I suspect a phishing scam and pool is being abused as the lure-bait.
Delete the email.
You haven't ordered a .eu domain so how can you recieve a message a .eu domain is succesfully registered?
Scam!

If you question yourself regarding ordering a .eu domain i would contact Pool yourself and verify this!

DONT click on any links in the email or open attachements. Go to the pool site directly or call them up if this is possible.

I just called pool.com, and do I feel silly, I guess. They told me I pre-registered for 1 EU domain back in early March. They said more than one person requested it, so it went to auction...where no one bid on it. Since I was the first person to request it, it's now mine.

The registering body is namescout, I'm told, but got no explanation for how I could order the domain with my US address.

To be honest, I remember thinking about putting in an order for some domains, but backed off after finding I would have to pay to open a 'business' with an EU address in order to qualify. But since Pool.com says I placed an order, I must have.

They say I should get an e-mail from namescout in a few days. Zowie...I'm now an EU owner without really trying.

All of Pool domains are registered through NameScout. :) I hate that registrar to be honest.
