I don't know if it is a Name Pros member that keeps doing this, but it's really annoying, and it has made me resolve never to use Afternic. Please note that none of my Baronets domain names will ever be offered for sale through Afternic. I keep getting my names submitted. and, although it may be flattering, it is not wanted.

Warning - don't make an offer via Afternic for any Baronets domain names - it will not be accepted or honoured.

Actually I am so fed up with this that I have just registered the domain name No Afternic.com, and I will list all of the fake Afternic sales of my names on this site. Once I have hosted the site, I will alert Afternic to my actions, and maybe they will consider taking a more professional approach to their domain sales, and only list names after ownership has been confirmed.

Somebody purchasing a BIN name that isn't available reflects badly on the domain name owner in my opinion.

We'd better pull in @namesilo as well, as I've registered the name through them. As far as I know, NS is not part of the Afternic fast transfer danger system, so I don't think the name is at risk. I suspect that it may cause a loss of credibility with any potential buyer.

Hi @Kuffy - we actually are a part of the Afternic Fast Transfer Program. As a broad recap, if someone lists a domain for sale with Afternic Fast Transfer, their system will trigger our system to send a verification email to the Registrant and Administrative contact(s) for the domain. The domain will not be listed with Afternic until this email is verified.

Small correction, it WILL be listed with Afternic, but not elgible for Fast-Transfer.

Correct, sorry, it may be listed but not included with Fast Transfer until the email is verified. Thanks

I can confirm Afternic lists thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, with instant BIN purchase prices without really verifying the person listing the name actually owns the domain.

I wouldn't worry too much about that happening. :xf.grin:

You mean like... baronets.cn ?

@xynames - I don't know why you bother to reply to my posts. You are never apposite, and don't add anything to the conversation.

Why on earth would I use a Chinese name - I'm English, and I specialise in .coms.

Send a request to [email protected] and request them to remove Sedo or Afternic FT (or both). I recently did that
You mean you asked NameSilo to stop being a fast-transfer enabled registrar within Afternic and Sedo?
How will this help to eliminate an issue of domains being offered on Afternic without real owners authorization? Afternic starts distributing the domain name as being for sale as soon as it is entered into their db, without any ownership check, and whether the domain is fast-transfer enabled or not is something secondary, as well as the domains registrar...

(Sorry if I misunderstood your post)

I really appreciate the fact that @namesilo is actively working with both platforms, and I hope that they will continue to do so. Many portfolios are consiidated @ Name Silo just because of this feature, which is extremely useful - access to both aftermarket platforms, local market, advanced domain management and perfect support all in one place.

The registrar.

Oh I thought he meant that he was afraid that people might bid on his names that have the word baronets in them, or his other domains

Some are, but some of the .coms I've picked up recently are

Coacts
Crustings
Gawpe
Pasteurises
Putrefact
Sensitised

and those don't include the urban dictionary words.

and I meant that he needn't worry too much about a bidding war on those.

No, I asked NS to disable fast transfer for my domains as I'd removed all of them from Afternic (and Sedo).

Is it possible to do this just for After-Nick and Sedo? I like the instant transfer possibility of the Name Silo market place, I just want to decide on the names to be included. I can do this with NS, but not with AfterNick ( I thought their name was related to domains, and I'm only just realising that it relates to their support for scammers).

Actually I'm grateful to Name Silo for the alert, and I don't want them to stop sending me notifications that AfterNick is trying to steal my names. I don't understand why AfterNick can't send a listing authorisation email to the admin email before listing, that could be automated fairly easily. Of course that would reduce the number of domain names on their market place.

Not sure I fully understand what you're asking. The way it works on the two systems is as follows:

Namesilo: You set up a domain for sale on the NS marketplace. The two pricing models available are make offer (AKA Offer/Counter Offer) or BIN. In both the cases, once a deal is finalized - i.e. in the former, an offer accepted by the seller and the buyer makes that payment, and in the latter, when the buyer submits a payment equal the BIN price, the domain is immediately transferred to the buyer's account. This is similar to Afternic/Sedo's fast transfer, except this transfer happens only between Namesilo accounts - i.e. Intra-registrar transfer.

Afternic/Sedo (Mechanics are similar between the two) - You add your domain registered on any registrar to your Aftermarket account. Once ownership is verified, your domain is available for sale. The pricing decided by the seller as either make offer or as BIN. Further, for a subset of registrars, these aftermarkets also support what is known as a fast transfer. Importantly, Fast Transfer (FT) is only available/enabled for domains that are listed on a Buy It Now (BIN) pricing model. For a given domain that has a BIN price and is registered with an FT supported registrar, you'll receive a confirmation e-mail from the registrar. Through the e-mail, you can authorize the FT of the domain on a sale at the marketplace. When the domain is sold via BIN, on payment verification, the domain is immediately removed from your registrar's account and moved, typically, to a holding account of the aftermarket (at the same registrar). The domain is then, subsequently, transferred to the buyer, usually via a push (can also be transferred out I believe).

Now, with the aftermarket's, if you do not click and authorize the FT listing with Afternic or Sedo, your domain is still available for sale but not via Fast Transfer. Which means, when your domain sells, you will need to discuss with the buyer and work out a manual transfer post which, upon confirmation by the buyer (or verification by the market), your payment is released. Sometimes, I've noticed, both with Sedo and Afternic (very recently in fact), is that Fast transfer does not get disabled for domains when you 1. delete them from the marketplace, remove the bin price or when the domain is transferred. Though I'm not 100% sure, it does appear to me that FT does not get disabled in some cases for private or aftermarket purchases either.

These last situations were what I was trying to clean up and hence my request to Namesilo support to remove all my domains from the Fast Transfer setting for these marketplaces. I did so as I wanted to clean up all my listings and relist them again with updated pricing as well as clear status of whether the domain is FT enabled or not (I don't want all my domains FT enabled).

Phew. That's a lot of typing. Hope it provides more clarity on how this all works and what my intent was. And if this is a repetition of what you already know, then I hope it helps others who might be confused about Aftermarkets and FT

Now for some morning after posts.

What is Baronets?

Baronets.com is one of my old hand reg domain names, and I decided to brand my private domain management service. There are no listings on the site, but I have installed some CMS on the domain including OSticketto use as an alternative to email for buyer contact and communication.

I've probably got a couple of dozen sales sites, and I keep messing around with them as I experiment - BuyAny.com will probably be a general one, and names like V8names, 42s, FoxFoo will stay, and I might sellsome of the others.

So why am I stressed about After Nick - I've had many names stolen over the years - IdleTalk.com was one that distressed me quite a bit, and I had an attempt to steal OilDrum.com from me. It took me a few months to get that back from the registrar that had gained it, and the first thing I did was to move it to Name Silo, as I feel my names are safer there. Part of the problem I had in trying to recover some of the stolen names was the fact that the whois was out of date, and they weren't hosted. I've brought my current names up to date, and I would encourage everybody to do this to protect their names. I've got an enormous amount of work that I need to do, and I don't want to waste time tryng to protect myself from scammers, spammers and thieves. I'd rather spend the time relaxing on some of the forum boards. :) AfterNick is owned by GoDaddy, and they seem to have become dominant in the domain industry, and with that dominance comes customer exploitation, and lack of customer service. Has GoDaddy become a "too big to fail" company that feels it can do whatever it likes, rather like many of the banks today? I believe they should take a responsible position, and should try to protect registrants domain names, rather than help people to steal them. Of course there is more money in a brokered domain sale than in a simple registration renewal - especially if the name is with another registrar.
