Pay Freelance jobs websites

Hi, I am currently looking for freelance work while I am on a break from uni for the summer. I have entered competitions on several forums including this one, but the work is few and far between. I have seen some sites that offer freelance work for designers but you have to subscribe to their sites to place bids. Has anyone had experience with these pay sites? or does anyone have any advice...jon
