Would anyone be interested in joining a mailing list that sends the top 250 domains every single day?

If so, would you pay for it?

If you would, what would you say is a fair price?

Just a few thoughts:

- Maybe a better strategy is to be a domain picker for a few successful domain name investors, rather than making a list for the masses. There are definitely domainers (and even outside "money"), that have more money than time. I think it's more sustainable to service 10 clients at $500 a month, or 5 at $1000 a month, than 250 clients at $20 a month. A 'premium' list strategy like this could just be 5 to 10 names a day, ideally targeted to the specific client.

- If you're serving too large of an audience, the good names will absolutely get bid up higher than they normally would get bid up to. The end result is that, the more subscribers you get (the better for you), the less value everyone on the list gets.

- Also - by releasing these names to a larger audience, they will of course get many more early bids. More sophisticated buyers would probably wait until the last minute to place a bid, but from your list, there will definitely be a group of less sophisticated bidders who will place bids immediately, which will then raise the awareness of the name to every other shark out there, who previously hadn't seen the name yet.

- Also - it sounds like by running this list, it would more or less prevent you from participating as a buyer in any of the aftermarkets that you are including in the list. You've stated 5 times that you would not be skimming from the list. What if you buy a name that you didn't include on the list? People would probably accuse you of withholding good names from your list :)

That is one of my worries. Not sure how to fix that yet. I have email analytics so I can see if it gets forwarded. But if one person wants to spoil it for everyone... I could always shut it down.

Or consider a membership "members only" where the list is not allowed to be copied? (won't stop but make it more time consuming to share)

I'm in BTW. :)

I published lists for many years in a variety of different formats and delivery methods. The good news is I did make decent money doing it. The bad news is there are a number of pitfalls that will constantly require you to adapt. The two biggest obstacles I think you'll encounter are:

1. Your private membership lists will be shared and republished, probably with another person's affiliate ID. Once your members find the republished lists, they unsubscribe. Trying to figure out which of your members is behind it will be a lesson in frustration. You'll essentially be working for them.

2. As others have pointed out, the increased competition will drive prices up. You'll make money, the registrars will make more money, all at your subscribers expense. Your subscribers will eventually realize this.

I have no doubt you can probably put together good lists on a consistent basis but the system will cannibalize itself.

I think you would be better off buying the best 10 to 20 domains cheap each day and offering them to your subscriber list for reasonably low reseller prices (100 to 200% markup). First come, first serve. If you really want to maximize revenue than you can host your own auctions. Much more administration time is required to do this but it could always be outsourced.

Maybe a preventative measure against these points could be to send each member a slightly different list? E.g. Have a pool of 250 domains, and send each subscriber 200 names at random.

Pretty sure someone else mentioned it in this thread. This would make it easier to identify the person leaking the names. Maybe time-consuming, but wouldn't be hard to outsource if you anonymize the names. It'd also reduce competition for the names you do send out.

Great news @Shane Bellone!

Thanks. I'm completely switching it up. I'll let you know what's going on in a bit. Just finalizing some stuff now.

Here's my proposition:

The List will consist of 50 to 75 domains sent to your inbox daily at 8am EST. I will give you a 1-week free trial. After that, it will cost $50 per month. I will CAP the list at 50 subscribers.

I would love feedback during the first week. What you love, hate, and need. I will try to accommodate everyone but will ultimately do what's best for the majority. If you do not want to pay after the first week, please email me telling me why and unsubscribe through Paypal.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to message me.

The website WILL be taken down after I get 50 subscribers.

EDIT: The price increase is reflective of the cap many members requested. I'm sorry to have prepared you for a lower price point. My sincere apologies. I too hate surprises.

The format has changed slightly. The minimum number of domains is now 30. I realize I've switched things up quite a bit and I apologize. I changed the format because some lists are worse than others and todays list was much worse than normal. I rather keep the list with domains I think will sell then add low quality names that don't have a chance in hell of selling. I'm sure I will lose subscribers for this but I think it's in the best interest of the group.

You don't accept bitcoins?

Nope. I don't like bitcoin personally and even if I did I don't think it's possible to automate the subscription model to accept bitcoin. Sorry!

The one domain I saw I liked on the list, everyone else backordered it. :)

Todays list was terrible. Sorting through all the garbage made me sad on the inside.
