Did own.tv not sell for $282 on Sedo (11th Jamuary this year)
Surely the buyer hasn't bought it & flipped it for $9k within weeks??

I read that somewhere as well. Not sure the validity of that as it was a $1000 premium renewal.

The Gut's of the article reads:



I auctioned the name OWN.TV almost 2 months ago ... the name has a renewal of $ 1000.
Then someone won name for less than $ 500.

It turns out that the winner never pay, and Sedo cancel the sale last week. So, I see this last week, I start to get emails asking to sell the name, I was offered several thousand .. Until someone wrote to me saying do not sell so cheap that Oprah is opening a TV channel in 2009: To be known as OWN TV.

I was interested to this name and the owner told me a minimum $35K and it was sold for 9K.

Good sale imo.

I am pretty sure the people at Discovery know how WHOIS works and made a conscious choice to reg Owntv.tv. SO what is the new owner going to do ? If they show related content the domain can be taken. So I guess they can hope people type that in and they can show unrelated ads and make some ppc from the domain. I think there is risk associated with the domain so $9000 was a great price.
