I've previously spoken about the Extreme Optimist, Moderate Optimist and Pessimist.

I have identified another opinion. It appears less sincere.

The best analogy that I can make is this... Have you ever heard about someone who purchases 1 share of stock so that he/she can leverage an objective - for instance an annual shareholder's meeting.

Buying a share of stock enables a voice. It's just a hard pill to swallow the sincerety of the concern.

Thread after thread shows a pattern at Namepros. Interesting topics followed by extreme, extreme caution.

I think that it permeates so deeply, so persistently that it should at least be a topic of conversation.

If posting a lot is grounds for suspicion then I'm screwed. :'(

Okay, this is the type of BS that really pisses me off.

This has come up time and time again.

It should not and does not have any bearing what so ever on the value or worth of the member.

Hells bells...look at my numbers.

What I value is the content of the message, not the number of messages. I have often had this pointed out to me to use my own self as an example.

If a member has only 60 posts and joined in 2003 does that make he/she less of a member?

I chime in on appraisals, newsworthy items, sell domains, bump my threads, rant and rave.

When I get to the point that I feel I can not learn any more by asking questions or have contributed all that I can I will stop posting and simply go away.

I often times wonder if the number system went away if there would ultimately be a mutual respect.

Even that I doubt.

I doubt it too, but like you I care what someone has to say not how often they say it.

circa, you might want to turn the steam down a little. I think you're missing the 'ribbings' that are being implied here. (..i at least think it's ribbi..... :-/ )

BINGO...

More importantly, for me, is the sincerity of the belief.

If you have an agenda - pro or against - a topic and you are clear about your agenda, then I will listen to your point and agree or disagree... as long as you are sincere.

I'm okay...this has come up on other forums as well (not just regarding me)...

I just think its time for members to measure the value of the content rather than the age of the wine (I've had vintages that suck) or the "mine is bigger than yours" measuring stick that has to do with numbers.

Man, talk about cryptic messages...

I don't know, at the rate you're posting, you'll catch up to the 23,000 pretty soon! But seriously, Hawkeye was just poking fun (I think). The thing is, about your saying how "ridiculous" this thread is: you've been here 1 month, and have had a lot to add to the discussion, but I don't think you've really heard much from Jeremy in that time. However, in the first few months of the MOBI release in particular he posted quite frequently, and has generally been one of the leading lights in the MOBI forum, contributing many valuable insights, bringing a level head to many otherwise heated threads, and I would say is seen as one of the top champions of the MOBI extension.

Obviously, you're familiar with Jeff -- as much as he'd like us to think otherwise, he's one of the biggest MOBI Detractors™ and in my mind his negative tone is far more insidious than someone like Labrocca, who at least doesn't pretend that he cares at all about MOBI or those who invested in it. I picture Jeff sitting in front of his computer, gleefully rubbing his hands together, tossing his head back, and cackling like an evil madman whenever there is anything that looks bad for MOBI. He then leans over his keyboard and types, "Oh, but I DO care..." "SO concerned about this turn of events..." "...what will this do to the 'Ecosystem'?" with a little smirk on his face.

So you'll have to pardon some of us if we happen to think that Jeremy is spot on with this thread. I don't think you've been here long enough to get the bigger picture. I'm sure you've noticed comments here and there in response to Jeff from those of us who agree with what Jeremy is saying, so this isn't exactly something that's coming out of nowhere. As usual, though, Jeremy's just very good at crystallizing a vibe and putting it into words...

:bingo: Dagersh, your post nailed it!!!

Double :bingo:

Take on the other hand, someone like Yelo, who is so incredibly positive about MOBI that one would be forgiven for thinking he was actually making fun of the whole thing...but he's also incredibly sincere, and it comes out in his posts.

Even with the "tonal" limitations of e-mail/forum postings, sincerity, or lack thereof, can't help but become obvious over time.
