I am making an area guide to a region called The Tri-Valley, an area in California. You can read a little about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tri-Valley

Anyway, the choice is between two names (given that everything else is taken).

trivalleyarea.com or tvregion.com?
I'm going for a official sounding name, rather than a catchy or clever name like trivalleylive.com or something.
trivalleyarea.com is the most descriptive but tvregion.com is shorter and returns 17,000 results in Google (but for other things mostly). So which do you like?

TriValleyArea.com is the one I would choose. Very clear, less confusion.

TV Region is a good name but for what you want to do the first name is much better! :)

Haha! I used to manage a store in Pleasanton.

I like TriValleyArea.com! You've got a winner there. :tu:

It seems unanimous. I parked the wrong one. Incidently, one of my choices was Tri-Valley Guide, tvguide.com, but some guy took it.

A local. Cool.

Any more opinions appreciated. So how important is the url length these days vs. a descriptive name?

I'm a total newbie wet behind the ears but with the amount of domains regged these days I reckon a descriptive name is a winner.

As long as it is not too long.

I'm not too fussed because I think nearly every decent name is gone and most half decent names are also gone (very good news for companys like NoDaddy of course. :))

I still speculate beause speculating is just about the only way you can inadvertantly stumble across an absolute blinder in my honest humble newbie opinion. :tu:

trivalleyarea.com, is not too long, is much more descriptive and is suitable for area guide to The Tri-Valley whereas tvregion.com even though is shorter it doesn't go well with the kind of site you intend to develop.

TriValleyArea.com sounds good. I also like TriValleyCA.com and it's still available.
By the way I built a site for my Dallas links a few years back. DallasExplorer.com
Good Luck!

trivalleyarea.com is definitely the most appropriate there. The only thing better would be trivalley.com...I assume that's taken though. :P

The old mantra for domains was "shorter is better," but this is no longer the case. As the Internet has gone mainstream, descriptive two and three word are now commonplace and better suited for marketing than their more ambiguous acronymic counterparts.

Go with what sounds best, and what is easiest for your target market to understand and remember. TriValleyArea.com is perfect. I wouldn't even consider it to be a long domain.

Hope to see the site when you finish it!

Wow, trivalleyarea is so bland and tasteless like chewing cardboard. You need something a little more sexy. The other one is not even a consideration.

If you're serious about this site and going to put money into it, maken an offer to the owner of: TrivalleyGuide.com. His site seems rather thrown together and low cost, maybe he'll sell the domain. Maybe try some other words but my vote is for neither.
