Well, exactly one week after the start of the 'frenzy' - a week without sleep or family or relationships - nothing but 'the chase' - I can safely say:
I am done and I'm going to take a little rest.
The final six are in the bag:
associates.tv
stir.tv
gardeners.tv
bowls.tv
flooring.tv
carpet.tv
and I'm some 250+ names up on this time last week!
Hope everyone enjoyed the run and the fun of the past week. It was a blast!
If you examine the WHOIS closely on the thousands of names that have been taken you will see that it is not just the 'usual suspects' buying into this dream - it is people who last week would never have considered buying a .TV name because of the (then) ridiculous price structure.
It appears that .tv is now a 'player' in the domain world - something it has never been before.
Not surprisingly, the end-user market has stayed exactly the same as far as I can see - it was always climbing, but that never showed in 'domain world'. My 'real' world is in the media and they are as carefree about .TV as ever. It is/has become a part of everyday life (especially in Europe) and as news is leaking out about the great names that have just dropped into the market we should see a good few months of steady growth.
Regardless of what Domainers think, the time I have spent on PR forums has showed that there is still an awful lot of ignorance about .tv (no doubt created by it's past idiotic price structure and witholding of great names). However, those same media people are a lot more sympathetic to .Tv when they understand it doesn;'t cost $10,000 a year anymore to own Carpet.tv.
Now these PR's can go to the CarpetRight's and CarpetWorld's of the planet (or whatever your national big carpet chain is called) and advise them that they can run a campaign that directs to Carpet.TV, where people (with an interest) can 'watch' an interesting, well-made, slick, informative and entertaining sales pitch by a professional, not a spotty faced salesboy who earns $5 an hour and knows nothing about the products.
One of the reasons I got into internet Tv was when I saw SingleMalt.tv (for which I would recommend a quick peek) some three years ago. It was fresh, exciting and interesting. I can't stand whisky, but I felt their passion for the product through the screen.
Ineternet TV has not just appeared recently in and said hello - it has slowly crept up and is now an endemic part of our lives.
Thank goodness some smart guy at Verisign finally realised .TV was an integral part of that mix.
New to .Tv or one of the old crew - good luck to you all.
Now - go let the world know you have a good answer to their marketing and sales ambitions.
Finally - I would recommend reading, again and again, the following thread:
