hi

i was trying to register a .org name which does not have a whois data (it dropped yeaterday)

The domain name you searched for is not in the registry, and may be available for registration. To register a domain name, contact a PIR-authorized registrar.
but when i search any registrar then it says that the domain is not available to register ???

i am not able to understand what is going on?

The registry your using can sometimes take a while to update - especially querying from somewhere else than http://www.pir.org/ .
If it dropped and was worth registering, someone else has it now.
Cross your fingers that it is a "taster", keep your eyes on it in ?4? days-ish (Check on that - I'm never quite sure how long they are able to stretch things despite the rest of us living under a different set of rules ;) ) and hope they drop it.

GoDaddy's whois is not real time - it may take many, many hours between database updates there.

This may or may not be the reason for what you are seeing, but you would likely get more false positives and/or false negatives if you use GoDaddy's whois to check recently expired domains - it's just not fit for that purpose.

As a separate point, you would do well to keep in mind Allan's advice above - it's one of the industry's least known 'tricks of the trade'.

but the problem is that i have checked each and every possible whois site .. if PIR.org the official site to check whois is showing that domain is available then why am i not able to register it??

GoDaddy would not allow you to register a domain which their whois shows as unavailable, even when in reality it is available.

Try places like NameCheap or Enom - last time I had a similar problem with GoDaddy I was able to reg it at Enom - directly or through a reseller such as NameCheap.

ok the whois of namecheap and enom are also showing that "NOT FOUND" domain might be availale for registration

but when i do a domain availability check to see if the domain can be reigstered or not it shows that domain is "taken" :(.. i have tried this process with enom, namecheap, moniker, godaddy

It's possible that the central registry database is messed up - I've seen it being the case with PIR when I used to follow the drops. Usually the problem would go away before too long, but if it doesn't by tomorrow morning you can always try contacting PIR and ask them to explain what may well be a bad data push on their part. Hopefully it wouldn't be too late if everyone else is encounterng the same problem right now.

It's too late. For the name dropping in 24 hours shows "NOT FOUND". :)

dnsreport
[ERROR: The parent servers say that the domain XXXXXX.org does not exist. Note that the DNS Report only works on domains, not hostnames.]

still the same problem :(

Yes, the process is pending delete. The name is available on 14:30 GMT today.

so does this happen with every dropping .org name?

it passes through the pending delete state.. it becomes deleted from the registry but still u cannot register it..

u can register it after 24hours of being deleted???

just confirming my doubts :(

Maybe. I've seen several times when catching expired orgs. Currently once the whois data is deleted from pir.org and will available next 24 hours.
