Looking to reg .cn, taken but no Whois info

I'm looking to register a .cn (china) domain name, but domainsite.com shows it is taken and the whois shows no record.

(Newbie question) How can this be?

I wish to contact the owner to buy it, or register it if it is not actually taken.

domainsite.com now shows its available. That's odd. I'll remember to double check with other registrars in the future and not trust dominsite 100%.

I think your problem is different from Matthew's.
Matthew's problem might be due to the temporary failed connection to Chinese domain whois when he first checked it.
