I did a little research the last months with 2 domains, one insurance related and one about real-estate. I switched each between mini-site, Sedo and ND every 3 weeks. This is what I got:

insurance:
minisite $2.50
Sedo $0.30
ND $0.50

real-estate:
minisite $1
Sedo $0.13
ND $0.07

All PPC were for the same keyword and had about the same traffic. That means parked pages only make anywhere from 5% to 20% of what adsense pays.

So if I were to develop 10% of my names I would be earning the same, plus saving me 90% of renewal fees. After all the threads about parking here, I'm done with all these parking scams.

That's a good idea to develop sites. It will hold good for the long term. But, Imo, don't depend on any one advertising stream. Explore every avenue. Blend affiliate advertising, contextual advertising etc to maximize your site potential.

I agree with you there... Building sites seem to be where more money is made. Choose where you want the ads, and you can usually get more people to a website than a parking page.

Not only that, but when you decide to sell, the domain with the website will bring in more money than just the domain.

;)

I bolded the parts of your post that essentially make your entire post a bit silly. So, based on the performance of 2 names on 2 parking programs (both of which pay out notoriously low on most names), you now refer to parking sites as "parking scams"?

That said, I'm sure mini-sites work a lot of times. Still, Sedo is only good for names with a lot of international traffic that's hard to monetize, and I honestly don't know what NameDrive is good for, if anything. :)

I don't think this post is silly - sure he/she only tested 2 sites for a couple of months - but I think the point is a valid one.

The politics of parking companies and what they claim to promise and what they deliver aside... I'd rather engage with a minisite than a parked page - so it will only be a matter of time when the majority get jack of it too.

How many of us- when we happen upon a parked side when we are researching something - click beyond the page? Not only that - I get a bit miffed that I've been directed to a dummy site.

I'm not a long-term parker... all my sites are going to be developed eventually - so maybe that is what shapes my feelings on this... Perhaps someone who parks for parks sake has a different perspective...

The two examples where just to make a point. I could have made the same conclusions without them. Everyone knows by now how big the cut is that parking sites take.

In any business it's not done to take advantage of the people you depend on. Google could have taken a 80% cut but they wouldn't have lasted long. Companies that are out to make a quick buck are scammers in my book.

what i have had luck with, build a minisite, leave the name there until it the name gets SE indexed , then park it, domain parking is still a good option if you monetize keywords, it's just getting people to the landing the landing page, minisites have been my best way to do that.

Minisites get PR also , so you can sell text links too.

My PPC payouts with Sedo have been much higher than my PPCs from Adsense on my minisites. I mean really, much higher. Where the ministe adsense might pay 5 to 20 cents per click, the Sedo page will pay 30 cents to more than a dollar. And I would say my experiment is more comprehensive than yours, kwan, since I have about 700 parked domains and 20 minisites. The problem is that I cannot promote or advertise my parked pages, whereas I am free to do whatever I want with my minisites. So the minisites end up making more money, because I use various promotional methods.

NameDrive pays $0 !!!

I've just been scammed by NameDrive yesterday. Now I'm expecting a response from Ed, if this will not come, I'll make public all their scam techniques.

Careful! Although i'm not exactly a big ND fan either, if you throw any statements around that you won't be able to back up to 100% and show actual proof, you'd be opening yourself to a slander suit. This would apply especially since you'd be posting at the heart of ND's target group - domainers. Keep in mind that you're targeting a corporation not just your next door neighbor.

Then, if you want to continue, open up your own thread -you're hijacking this one. ;)
