No-bid TDNAM name doesn't enter Closeout?

There was a name at TDNAM that I was watching that did not receive any bids at $10 auction, and yet it never entered closeout. Did a GoDaddy backorder get it? I thought these backorders placed a $10 at the BEGINNING of the auction, not between auction and closeout? Does anything happen between these two steps that I'm not aware of?

Someone help me out please

Also, if the name says: not available at Godaddy does that mean it has been backordered?

If someone had it on their watchlist they could have snapped it up at the second the $10 auction finished. They would get it for $5 + regfee and it would not enter the closeout list. I know because I have done it. :guilty:

It's risky waiting but there are rarely any bids in the last 30 seconds if there have been no previous bids.

Yeah, it happens. I have seen it many times. The best rule I have found is if you really want a domain bid the $10 near the end. If you don't want it bad enough for $10 then waiting for closeouts is rolling the dice.

you can have it on a watchlist? who gets priority if there are multiple people watching it?

I have never heard of this. Having the domain on a watchlist doesn't do anything other than show the status.

If you are watching an expired domain and there are no bids it normally dumps to closeouts after a few minutes. Even there it is possible to be outsniped. It has happened to me a few times where it lets you buy the domain, then said outbid. It happens if someone beats you by seconds.

and why are there auctions that just end? There are domains that have multiple days until it ends, and but the next day I check, it's gone

The first one to add to their cart and pay for it!

but having it on a watchlist is no different than waiting for it to move into closeout then? If you have to add it to your cart anyways

That's because the owner has renewed the domain. The domains at Tdnam are still available for renewal by the previous owner. Even when you win the auction you still have to wait a number of days before the domain is actually yours.

Having it on your watchlist makes it easier to grab as you can purchase it directly from there.

Yeah, you still have to purchase it through the normal checkout.

I have seen domains on my Watchlist not dump to the closeout many times. Why it happens exactly I have no idea.

damn...I didn't even see it move into closeout, and I was refreshing every 2 seconds.

Yes, it has happened to me several times. Best rule is if you want the domain bid $10 near the end. Then you are not taking any chances.

Thanks for clearing this up guys. I'll just have to be not superstingy

$5 is a lot when you are only paying $17 :P

It is a $5 one time fee. If you are not willing to spend an extra $5 the domain is probably not worth stressing over.

As Brad said. If you want the domain, you should have bid the $10 for it. Waiting for it to go to the firesale is just stupid. Anybody who has backordered the domain after the auction began will get it before it goes to the firesale.

I buy domains from TDNAM every day.. paying a 40%+ premium is going to be costly

Is rolling the dice & hoping a name goes to closeout risky? Yes, it is. However choosing to pay a premium on a name when most times it will go to closeout is not good business. Why pay more if you don't have to. There is a risk but most times you will get the name.

Most likely the name was backordered as once the auction ends, it processes a backorder preventing it from going to closeout. If you don't see it reach closeout, you know what happened. The name was not renewed by the previous owner at the same exact time.

I think some of you aren't understanding what the OP said happened. If a $10 TDNAM auction ends with no bids and never goes to closeout, it's because it was backordered. If it were last-minute bidded, it would show having gotten a bid. If it were snapped up in closeout, IIRC it would show as closed with 1 bid with price showing as $5.

Just noticed this in the 2nd half of your post after I posted :P.

It was backordered...lesson learned, pay the extra $5.

I think the OP clarified his position. The domain wasn't worth the extra $5.
