Nice to see a name you sold being used

Earlier this year, In Feb or March I think, I sold Propane Mower (dot) com to a large company. This whole year, I have been checking to see whether the company I had sold it to ever started using it.
Time after time when I checked, I would just get a generic Fabulous PPC page.

I thought it was an odd thing to do when the name could potentially help them sell their "new" product. Either that, or they probably just wanted a tax write-off.

Well, I checked today and it looks like they finally wised up and started re-directing it to their website.

It's kinda cool to see a domain you sold being used by a large company.

Makes domaining and selling names seem more like a "service" you're providing to someone rather than just hording names for the possible big payoff, like buying lottery tickets.

I cant agree with you more. When i sold pokerstarsexchange.com and saw it being redirected to a relatively large company i was nothing but proud.

Thats pretty cool capiche, did you know they had intentions of making a propane powered lawn mower or you just register the name because you liked the way it sounded?

I knew, that's why I bought it.

Thanks Peter. It does make you feel proud. Nice one on your part also.

I don't understand though, why these companies buy the names and do nothing with them for so long. Most of the time, it's just a case of simple re-direction to start using them.

I sold another name maybe 6 months ago to a small software company in Atlanta. The domain is the exact name of their main product and is even in bold letters on their homepage, yet it still just sits on a parked PPC page.

Capiche. I think that sometimes they just buy the name so they have assurance that no one else has it. But i do agree with you 100% it is odd how they will pay for the name and do nothing with it.

Lol. Im well aware of what it means. Im just saying that the companies will sometimes buy the names so they have them and others arent making money from their name.

I sold a name earlier this year, and now it's being used for a child porn site. :( I sent a message via the FBI Website about it, and nothing's been done.

^^^ Yes, it is. It still irks me though. I could understand if they couldn't find it. But when they have a tip that it exists, it's ridiculous that it's still up. :(

What amazes me is how often people never make use of a name. Can't be bothered to even change the domain to redirect to a parking site. I've had cases where it took several reminders for a buyer to accept a push and one where I gave up after the third reminder and simply kept the domain. I have a few that I"ve sold that I have hopes of picking after the current owners fail to renew.

I haven't had a domain sell and be used by a large company, but it is nice to see a name you sell getting used rather than just parked. I did sell a name in the alternative fuel related industry back in August and to this day they haven't even changed the page and it's still my Adsense account that gets the clicks. Makes about $10/month and it's no longer my name. ;)

I sold a domain in early December, received payment for it, but the buyer won't accept the push. I've emailed them numerous times throughout the process and haven't heard word one from them the entire time, aside from the payment after the Ebay auction ended. Even tried pushing it again, nothing...

Should I consider it a Christmas present? heh. I don't know what some people are thinking. Personally, I don't have $100 to just throw around without a care in the world, but I guess some people do :)

I've sold a bunch of domains and aside from one, I've never bothered looking to see what they were being used for. The one I did check out was my first sale, and it's just being redirected.

They seem to do it alot - I'm waiting to see what Chrysler Daimler do with cf.com which I beleive they purchased recently - It was part of a bankruptcy sale and was priced around $85,000 I think - I wonder how long it will take before they do something with it ?

Its a real shame when domains like this sit go nowhere :'(

D-: I would most definetly follow that one up - there must be other people you can inform surely.

Please do it :)

a quick search for "report child porn" brings up a few options

http://www.asacp.org

http://www.reportchildporn.com

and many more - Please don't wait for the FBI to pull their finger out their ***

Did you know they were a big company before you sold it? The reason I ask is that I sold a name a while back through Sedo, checked it shortly after the sale and saw that it was being used for a company website.

That was when I new I undersold. :(

Yeah, I contacted them to make the sale.

I knew they were coming out with the mower, so I registered the name, contacted them to offer the name and then made the sale.
