Hello Everyone,

I am new to this part of the webmaster industry and would like some more information on it.

What makes a domain valuable?

How do I know what domains are worth something and what are not when I want to reg a domain?

Thanks

Jonathan

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
the value of the domain is in the keywords used.
the extensions most reseller prefers .COM over anything else.

So what do you think of UKeastateagent.com, 8keasy.com and teenagetalk.com?

Thanks

I have posted it on the appraisals forum but not getting a single response

allow 24 hours for it, if still not a reply then that's a hint that the domain is not that good.

Patience!

UKeastateagent - $reg fee

TeenageTalk.com - depends on the end-user, I'm sure you could sell this on for low $xxx

8keasy.com - $reg fee

Why? UKeastateagent - typo, and not a particularly good one. Does it receive any type-ins? Can you think of anyone who might want to invest in it?

TeenageTalk.com - means something, brandable, obvious end-user would be a teenage website e.g. nexopia.com

8keasy.com - 8k is a very random number and doesn't really make all that much sense. Plus I'm sure I could just as easily reg 22keasy.com or any variation of it.

There is loads more to this. Have a look around and do lots of research. Check out all the pinned topics and do your research.

Best of luck :)

Sorry, the typo was my mistake, it is www.ukestateagents.com no typo

And 8keasy was registered because 8 is supposedly a very lucky number

In China?

In can understand your reasoning behind this and all of what you mentioned may be appropriate if it was eight.com you had available for sale. But unfortunately, 8000 easy doesn't really spell "lucky" to me, it spells a random number.

UKestateagents.com on the other hand, I like.

There is a well-known domainer named Rick Latona who has sponsored NamePros.com in the past. He is a sharp guy and definitely knows his stuff when it comes to selling domains and recognizing which domains will sell, and which most likely will not.

He wrote a blog post recently that answers the question "What Makes a Domain Sellable?": http://www.ricklatona.com/2008/05/26/what-makes-a-domain-sellable-part-4/

There are 4 parts - I recommend you read all of them :D

To get an appraisal of domains, I usually visit Estibot.com

However, such appraisals are not to be taken as a guaranteed value, since a domain is worth just as much as your end-users are willing to pay for it :)

I am not sure estibot is reliable, It values my domain www.gbestateagents.com at $20 but I have had no interest in it when I post places

Free appraisals sux, see marketplace here what sells for what.

Pick domains that can get some type-in or are expired with remaining traffic and park them.

Comparison of some parking companies

Getting back to your question GigaNu, really good domain names are names which are brandable or very generic.

Not all domainers play that game though. I play the traffic game. Find domain names which are expiring which have traffic and monetize them. Traffic = Money :)

There are a series of ways to play this game! Other ideas are buying international domain names hoping that they will eventually become popular (or more popular then .com).
