Hi everyone, I'm new in the game and I really fell into it by accident.I was planning to try to start my first website and the first tip I received was to choose a domain name. This was a week ago.As I was reading how to choose a domain name I discovered this whole market for domain names which I just didn't know existed.I bought a couple of domain names but then I kept reading more and more about this game and it's really interesting. This forum looks like a great place to start participating and meeting other people like me.

Anyone can direct me to where I can find information on how to flip domain names? I know yo ucan do it on flippa but I've heard they take a big cut.Is that true? I'm talking about domain names probably not worth more than 100$ that I paid 15$ to get, so a marginal profit on each deal.I have 6 domain names as of now but plan on buying more.

Also, if the domain isn't already in the aftermarket, especially a .com domain, does that necessarily means it's next to worthless?

I've been buying the domains, or more precisely i've been registering them as they were available , on godaddy.com.I thought it was quite expensive to pay 15$ for each domain 1-year, so is there any cheaper way to get this done?

Another confusing thing is that some domain that aren't .com domains are worth a lot, but most are worthless. It's hard to evaluate why some .net are worth it and some are not. With the .com it's more straightforward, you have the shortness, the 3-4-5 letters , the NNNNNN domains with a lot of 8's or just simply a good catchy keywords domain names.Anyway, that's what I've learned in 3 days of reading.Hopefully more to come :)

The first ting you should do, besides asking for advise (which you have already done) is read anything and everything about domain names, the success stories and successful people behind it, then, read, read and then read some more. Read up for hours on end, days and weeks and then, keep reading. Soak in everything and only then you will get a good feel of what domain names are, which one to pick, which is a gem as opposed to a pebble.

And if you are good at it (unllke an introvert like me) network in person, via meetings, domain conferences and make friends.

This is the best advise (I) can give you.

To your success.

Thanks for your response.I do read none-stop, I'm a bit of a obsessive.

I also try to get a feel for the value of domain names by looking at the ones that got sold recently, but it's hard to know if some of them were inflated by fake bidders or similar schemes.

Unfortunately I bought my 6 domains before I knew already a lot more after reading nonestop for a couple of days.

No worries, one of my first 10 'bad domains' that I bought I ended up selling for $1500. Spend some money learning, make good buys and make some terrible ones; you never know.

Good luck friend, and welcome to the forum.

Yup! I don't trust all the sales figs shown. I don't have all the facts, but something about some big name sales relevant to their quality, and then its usage in the manner after the sale, begs to ask its credibility far as transactions goes.

All my domains are two or three words names.I have a feeling I'm too late in the numbers and few letters game.I might go OCD on trying to find some LLLLL domains that are pronouncable, but I doubt those domains are really a gold mine just based on the sheer number of them (11 millions and dust).

Thx for your taking the time to respond me and welcoming me.
