Why, are there premium words in org extension?

It say some "domain expiration protection" maybe this is why they charged so much.

it's just a fancy name for autorenewal
Correct.

The irony is that they stand to gain from having it toggled on (unless their goal is to auction it off…)—yet they still add an extra charge for it.

Crazy, I just checked a random 4-letter dot org, normally a standard reg fee at 4 different registrars and found that: DSFH.org is now considered a premium at all registrars and they want :
  • $1,388 reg then $10.53 renewal at Dynadot
  • $1,388 reg at Porkbun
  • $1,388 reg then $22.99 renewal at godaddy
  • #1,388 reg then $14.98 renewal at NameCheap
etc, etc... I did a search to see when .org added premium pricing to 4-letter .org's and not finding a date anywhere. It's like, they just slipped it in there more recently.

Anyone else know what date the premium 4-letter .org's when into effect?

That domain is already registered. The current owner is listing it for sale at those registrars.

Ahh, that makes more sense.. oddly, everywhere I checked did not clearly state that the domain was being resold via aftermarket network and it was listed right along with other available domains for registration in their lists lol

Thanks for clarifying.

Checked: bzzf.org $7.49

^Confirmed: though, it's a bit shady how many (if not most) are listing some domains without transparency that are already owned and the reason for the first year premium cost. the wording blurrs and mimics a first time standard registration type domain. It seems the term "Premium Registration" now covers "Premium priced Aftermarket purchase", but without saying it.

P.s. Alternately, I'm just getting old and easier to confuse.. lol (Taps his AARP card)

I totally couldn't sleep if i had even a name with them.

but if I had a card or paypal on file there I'd probably just have heart failure.

at 50 I must be ever so careful now

Picked it up in an auction on NameJet, who parked it there.

Finishing up the first year now.

org has no prem
and they charge so much cause they are desperate for cash and or greedy

and they are greedy cause they suck

and because they suck nobody uses em

unless they have to

It sounds frustrating to be charged a hefty $52.98 unexpectedly. Network Solutions does have auto-renewals enabled by default for some domains, including .orgs, so it’s always good to double-check your account settings.

After watching your thread I just turned Off auto renewal option linked to my CC of some of my Domains immediately.

You might want to:
  1. Check your auto-renew settings – see if you can turn it off for the future as I have done it.
  2. Contact Network Solutions support – explain that you didn’t intend to renew; sometimes they can issue a refund or credit. Hostinger.com consider it liberally.
  3. Set reminders – for next time, consider using calendar alerts before domain expiry to avoid surprise charges.

It’s a common issue with many registrars, so you’re not alone. Hope this helps!

name jet / snap names catches and drops end up there. They did upgrade the whole UI and it's much better but the business logic behind the fee structures and upsells reminds me of a tourist area shady market in a third world country.

Having autorenewal enabled on NetSol is a crime punishable with a $40 renewable fee.
