Namesilo had another option, every registrar states

You agree that (INSERT REGISTRAR), in its sole discretion and without liability to you, may refuse to accept the registration of any domain name. INSERT REGISTRAR also may in its sole discretion and without liability to you delete the registration of any domain name during the first thirty (30) days after registration has taken place.

So they could delete it for any reason, then register it for the Taylor family. Domain was less than 30 days old.

To summarize - we received numerous reports about the domain name breonnataylor.com. Following an investigation, we found it was indeed inciting violence and unlawful behavior against the police department that had nothing to do with the domain, so we decided to take it down per our T&Cs. In an already tense situation, leaving up the domain name would have been irresponsible and only serve to create further anger and pain.

To help ease some of the damage done, we decided to instead forward the domain name to support the GoFundMe of Breonna Taylor's family, along with a 10k donation. We are currently trying to get in touch with Breonna's family and offer them access to the domain name. Otherwise, we will deactivate the domain again once the GoFundMe campaign is completed.

We hope you will stand with us in supporting Breonna Taylor's family and the Black community dealing with these injustices.

Also interesting, whois shows date registered was 1 day BEFORE she was killed. Could be a timezone thing, but if WIKI is right she died on 5-13 (-4 GMT). Domain registered 5-12. Not sure how besides some timezone thing.”

A board member with the Louisville Metro Police Foundation says there is a fake fundraising website using Breonna Taylor's name.

Plus these kinds of names are certainly susceptible to UDRP's, Famililes going through such terrible times should not have to deal with extra burden of that.

All registrars have the right to cancel a registration in the first 30 days no matter the reason, nothing related to how it's being or not being used. There are many people, some domainers who are going to look up and see if a registration takes place when a human being is harmed. They are going to bring it to the attention of the registrar and apply pressure for the registrar to do something if it's being used in a nefarious manner. Nobody stopping that.

That situation should have never risen. There was a standard for auctions established. You had to go out of your way to have it coded and planned another way and I can imagine the talks in their board room about maximizing the revenue per client.

What if we mark it in red? Make them alarmed? What if we tell them they have to increase the bid to win even when they are winning? What if we remove proxy bid option? What if we make technically possible to overbid yourself? Those don't come as standard features for any auction script or any brief for making such a script.

It can only be DELIBERATE.

So, yes, it was intentionally dirty for the auctions and to me that makes the whole donation thing nothing more than PR.

I still find the decisive action taken by namesilo to be more meaningful than the donation itself. There is another thread for you to air your namesilo auction complaints.

Which has received over $6,263,900.

So in comparison, $10,000 only makes up .00159643675% of the total collected thus far.

Some things are more important than money. Such as trickle effects. Hopefully namesilo applies that same logic to their auction deceptiveness.
