Nameservers Changed Issues on Sav.com

My nameservers for all domains have been changed to ns1.all-harmless.domains and ns2.all-harmless.domains, and I am unable to change the DNS again. What could be the issue?

Also, a friend of mine is facing the same problem with over 600 domains. What's going on with sav.com?

Thanks!
One question to those who have reported issues with their Account. At least for the ones who have posted Domains, I could see that there were new gTLDs, which were indeed "new."
I checked my Domain Portfolio, and the only TLDs I have that are not gTLDs are ".taxi," ".pro," and ".xyz." The first two were "Gifts" by SAV, and well, the last one—it's just the price everywhere. Sometimes, I saw that new gTLDs were much cheaper at SAV than at other registrars. Like "Premium" (I hate this word in this context), Domain Names were often cheaper when it came to special TLDs.
On top of that, I "SAV" an Article from 2020, I mean, yes, 4 years old - but looking at their Platform Development, it's not much time:
https://help.sav.com/hc/en-us/artic...p-for-BAR-REST-SBS-ICU-CYOU-and-other-Domains

Maybe that is the standard "issue" those Accounts faced, which got suspended, but never had any extremely abusive Names.

Just guessing.

Even though the fraction affected was probably small, to them it was a huge thing to have (in some cases) suddenly all of their domain names inactive, including at least a few used by businesses.

I am glad that it seems that many are now reinstated, but I gather from above still not some.

While fully realizing that it may take some time to provide an informative statement re what happened, I hope that will come. I realize that some level of detail is probably not possible for security of privacy reasons.

They are by no means the only company who have ever taken action of blocking entire accounts, and without recourse. Or at least stated without recourse.

Registrars make pennies per domain name, and yet are often tasked with the heavy work of dealing with compliance complaints, whether those complaints are justified or not. I think we need to show some understanding of their challenging position. But also protecting the rights of domain holders.

I wonder if ICA have a statement on this topic? (I am not personally a member)

I speculate that the phishing report that came out in the last week or so has increased pressure on registries and registrars in this regard. This is purely speculation on my part. Clearly many of the posted names would not be in that category, but perhaps some of the recent registrations were, or were claimed to be.

While concerned with issues like this, I will continue to use Sav. I have used them for a number of years, not as my major registrar, but as a significant one.

I can only imagine how stressful this has been to those affected.

-Bob
Thanks for your Post, Bob, it makes very much sense.
I don't remember any post where the Dynadot CEO wrote (in this AMA Thread) that they earn about $0,15-0,30 per Domain, I guess.

I think we need to show some understanding of their challenging position. But also protecting the rights of domain holders.
True, if you read their TOS, your eyes will burn. It's actually more or less written as the user wrote in the "Warning" Thread against Dynadot. There are paragraphs/sections written in full capslock. Maybe that's normal.

Even though the fraction affected was probably small, to them it was a huge thing to have (in some cases) suddenly all of their domain names inactive, including at least a few used by businesses.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that if someone is doing anything abusive or they assume, it's not that only this specific piece is blocked - but the whole account/person is flagged.
At least that's why I experienced in several industries from their Anti-Fraud-Systems.
And then they start to "investigate" whether it's only this fish or more of them. At least, that's my thought: Do it to avoid people transferring out and running.

Kind regards,
Mustafa

Not wanting to get this discussion off track, but if one compares wholesale costs to them with retail costs to us for many extensions at registrars like Sav that offer great prices the difference is almost nothing.

Now they do make money when domains subsequently sell on their marketplace (although just 4%) or through a transfer network, and if name sells at expiration, but it is still a very lean way to make money. I admire the successful registrars that also manage to have great service. It is not an easy business.

On your other point, I do agree that if there is a pattern of abuse, i.e. new registrations reported for phishing or other abuse right off, that the only solution is probably account closure, since otherwise if it is only certain domains blocked they just register new ones. What seemed missing here, was a warning period, and means to object to the report, etc.

But we have not fully heard from Sav yet.

Registrars make pennies per domain name
That's not what Verisign thinks :xf.wink:

Quoting VRSN CEO, Jim Bidzos:

"American registrars have been cranking up their prices in order to prioritize average revenue per user over volume, he said, meaning retail prices for .com have gone up “more than twice” Verisign’s own price hikes, leading to fewer sales as a result." (source)

While you are correct that some registrars offer registrations almost at cost price, they also have other revenue streams, such as earning income from expiring domain streams and partner programs with e.g. Afternic or Sedo. And of course from hosting packages and all the bells and whistles that go with domain registrations.

But I fully agree with you that it is a very competitive market to operate in.

Do you have any idea which domains in your portfolio could be causing this? Can you share some of them?

That's true. But you know the circumstances. Which of the domains from that list do you think pose(d) a high risk to Sav?

There is no domain which was causing or caused high risk. They just deleted everything without warning.

Deleted? I though only nameservers were changed, and Hold status was assigned.

No they just deleted my account. I don’t have access to my account. If I try to login using my current email, they just ask me to create a new account.

Future Sensors, I feel that these new gTLDs were sometimes highly reduced compared to other Registrars.
Maybe that's the common point?
I can't see any abusive or violating Domains in the Portfolio that have been posted.
And I just assume that all those people posting it have fake IDs and fake Payment Methods.

What do you think? Not only @Future Sensors & all in general.

And as far as I know, the only way to get updates is through their X/Twitter, right?
At least Bob's conversation was over there.
I would not bother the Live Chat; they will say the same - official Statements are appreciated.

So I understand that on the one hand Sav admits to having made a mistake, and accidentally locking entire accounts, while they intended to take action on only some individual domains.

On the other hand I understand that Sav persists in disabling total account access for some.

It is not entirely clear to me yet, but perhaps more clarity will come soon.

Keep posting, all.

The funny thing is, of course, that they sell all these cheap TLDs themselves.

Do you mind posting that specific Domain(s) here?
It's not fully written; cover it so that it's not indexed. I mean, you have already shared your whole portfolio.
But I would try to get a pattern/understanding of what the root cause might be.

Deleting the whole Account: Or most likely frozen from their end -> Compliance related often.

Don’t you think they should have gave us any warning beforehand or any sort of notification? Payment method is legit, I am taxpayer here in Pakistan.
I don’t understand why they are denying my portfolio but restoring some people’s portfolio.
