I placed backorder bids for several names the other night, and 2 of them had "pending auction" next to the status. They both had 30 people who backordered, and my bids were not minimum bids - one was $73, the same amount as the high bid at the time, and the other was $175 were the current bid ended up being around $200.

I logged in this morning, and now they're being listed as 'Wish List,' which makes it seem like I didn't get into the auction. What could be going on? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the backorder?

This happens all the time. I think some registrars are listing their domains at namejet just to see what domains get bids. Then they pull out the domains and keep for themselves. It could be also some special deals done behind closed doors.

Namejet's argument is that those domains were renewed by the previous owner. I think this is total BS. They shouldn't allow domains to be listed on their site if the domains can be renewed.

I don't know what percentage namejet gives the registrar. If the registrar thinks they can sell the domain for a higher price than what they would get from namejet, they might try to do so.
