Namecheap - $19 to $1500 premium. Are they monitoring my searches?

    Hi Pros,

Already posted this under Domain registerars review. I need input as I don't want to make any mistake anymore.

I have been compiling a list of .global domains that I wish to register for some weeks now.
I decided to start registering them, I first use domainr.com to search for domains availability and the name HorseRacing.global was available.

I used the "Namecheap Beast Mode Domain Search" and one of the domain HorseRacing.Global was "Available" for the normal namecheap $19.88 registration + ICANN fee which totalled $20.16.

On reaching the checkout, only to discover that the price changed from $19.88 to $1560 and suddenly the domain has the Premium mark on it.

I search for the domain on Godaddy as well and it now has the Premium domain mark.

I don't know what's going on here. Can someone care to explain to me? I have attached the screenshots I captured as soon as I saw this happened.

This once happened to me with Godaddy once.
    I'll appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Namecheap doesn't handle registry premiums very well that's all. They're not watching you. Well, maybe they are but that's not what they're doing in your case.

Sometimes you even buy a domain only to receive a refund a couple minutes later because that super premium domain that you found was never available.
    It's just an error.

Some new gTLD registries have a list of premium domain names which are priced differently to ordinary registrations. It may not be a case of the registrar (Namecheap or Godaddy) repricing them. Some of the registries do tend to have a remarkably optimistic opinion of the value of their NGTs.

    Regards...jmcc

It might be that with new gTLDs your registrar will first show standard prices as they won't know if the name's premium until they contact the registry at the "Add to cart" stage. If it's premium then the price will show then. I think that's how namesilo do it anyway.

    Use Porkbun or Dynadot.
There no such issues with nTLD premiums.

This just happened 5 minutes ago - I purchased Lending.link and I got a refund.

Support says it was a Visual Glitch and apologized.
I'm gonna have to stick with another registrar.

Happened to me with Namecheap & Godaddy many times. Posted on a facebook group and turns out I'm not the only one. Even search on google and you'll see many posts on forums..

Now I don't include the extension in my search if I don't plan on buying it right there. I just type the keyword and manually search for the extension I need..

That always happens with Namecheap. They list many premium domains as normal price, then when you try to buy it gives that glitch. Also I've tried buying some recently expired domains through them & it says unavailable but I check on godaddy & it's available; but more expensive..
