analysis My NamePros Domain Name Experiment

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
I've been a member of Namepros for years, buying and selling domains on this forum and many other places all over the internet for somewhere around two decades. You'd say I'm more of a hobbyist than a serious full time domainer. I've always worked for myself or had a job or two for others along the way. Recently, I noticed that NamePros had started a service to help domainers sell their names with sharp looking parking pages so I thought I'd give it a try by experimenting with 10 of my top names to market online. They are all dot coms and have had some traffic over the years I've owned them, including names like ExtraCheap.com, BeachDress.com, BikinisDirect.com, RateSolutions.com and PXVR.com. I'm not sure how this experiment will measure up but it's worth the try. All sorts of people come to this site to check out domain names.

I'll keep you up to date on how it goes, when and if I get inquiries on the names and if any of them end up selling as a result. In the mean time, keep domaining gang. I hope this will allow me to provide some good domaining advice. Good luck to you all!

Thanks,
Mike

It took a while to get the domains I put up here verified, mainly because the Namepros system is different than any where else I've encountered on the web. The additional step could be explained a bit better to help those parking names here. A little more of an explanation could be a lot of help. Now all the names are appearing on their own pages and are able to get offers. We'll see what happens next!

Hi @likemike

I only see 1 of the domains you mention above as verified (fixed a typo in one of them).

The others are still unverified.

Could be that it takes some more time, please do check your dashboard and the message on the lander.

This is what you will see on the lander for domains that have not (yet) been verified:

A normal STR for decent .coms is around 1%.

Around 50% of this comes from listing with Afternic and its network and another 50% from a good lander.

The lander portion can be improved or worsened by +/-20% via great or bad lander. So, let's assume NP lander is great and gives you that extra 20% improvement and now your STR is 0.5%+0.5%*(1+20%) = 1.1%

So how is that going to be noticeable based on a handful of names? One fluke sale and you will assume it is awesome? I mean with 5-6 names, you are more probable to have zero sales in the next decade than have 1 or more in that period even with the most awesome perfect lander.

You need hundreds of domains over an extended period of time for any meaningful experiment, preferably with a randomized a/b comparison vs another platform.

Funny how that worked out with the verification process. It showed up earlier for me in the US. And interesting points Recons. It's all in the name!

It's just 3 days before it's been a month for my little experiment here on Namepros so here's the news for now. I've gotten 2 inquiries and one low ball offer on names. Nothing to make a sale yet but at least it has produced some activity. I'll keep you updated. Keep domaining!

OK happy to let everyone know I got another inquiry on a domain name. This time it is for PXVR.com which has many uses including virtual reality of course and pictures. I'll let you all know how it goes. Have a great day!

Very exciting! Thank you for giving us a try. :)

Pro Tip:

Visit: https://www.namepros.com/parking/domains/add

Checkmark the option: "Update preferred casing for existing domains"

Paste the following list (with your desired capitalization) into the provided text area:

ExtraCheap.com
BeachDress.com
BikinisDirect.com
RateSolutions.com
PXVR.com

Then press "Add domains" at the bottom. That will update the casing of your domains on your landing pages to improve their legibility.

You can also do the same process for your other domains. :)

Update on my Experiment

Not much traffic has developed and only four offers have been received as of this date. There is one for PXVR.com that has been from a Chinese entity that seems to be a phony. No communication from the party after they emailed through the site here several times. Frauds are frauds anywhere. As a result of the lack of traffic, I've sent four of the names to other parking pages, including Sedo for WhereHouse.com, one of my oldest names. Numbers as any experienced domainer who has sold names will tell you is key to selling domain names and of course the quality of the name. All in all, Namepros landers seem to be equal to other companies a few days more than two months into the experiment. Very little significant differences so far. I'll keep the domain name pages parked for a while longer with Namepros and report back here to let you know how it's going. Good luck domainers selling some names!

We appreciate the update.

A couple quick notes:
  1. Other companies take up to 30% of your sale. NamePros Landers are completely free, so you can make thousands of extra dollars by using ours instead.
  2. This year, we'll be adding a for-sale search website of domains parked with us, and then we'll drive a significant amount of viewers to your domains that are using our service. And still 100% free! :)

Tip: Did you add Google Analytics to your landers yet?

Thanks again for trying our parking service!

Just wanted to let you know I'm switching some of the names out due to little traffic. I'll keep you updated.

I don't quite understand the 'traffic' rationale you mention. But experimenting with different domain landers and marketplaces is always good. How long have you been trying NPP?

A few months back as posted in the original post above.

That's true. But it doesn't explain what you said about the "traffic" part. NamePros Parking will not bring you traffic, but will happily provide visitors with a lander for any traffic it receives on your domains.

So, could you please explain why you're leaving "due to little traffic", as you mentioned?

@likemike, it breaks our heart to hear that, but thank you for giving our landers a try.

Did you receive any inquiries?

How are you measuring traffic at other marketplaces?

We can just about guarantee that other marketplaces arenโ€™t giving your names any additional exposure. Theyโ€™re just going to take 20-30% of your sale whenever that day eventually comes.

Weโ€™d love to learn more about how your experiments have gone at other marketplaces and how your future experiments unfold at those marketplaces.

Thank you for sharing your journey!
