This is a personal opinion only.

I am getting the feeling that the big end users that will pay the six figures for .tv will be the ones that are brands as opposed to generics.

Since .tv is no more no less than a brandable extension, it is starting to make more & more sense to go after brandable names, like I just bought Brown.TV. Or names I have owned for a while now, like Crimson.tv. Or one of my GOLDRUSH names, Mint.Tv...

I still like generics and geos, but I think to land the BIG FISH, it will be the brands that will win the game.

Half the names I took in the goldrush were brandables, whereas three years ago, it would have been less than 20%.

I just get this feeling that this is the direction the money is moving to for .tvs.....I would still love to own kickass geo sites, so that has not changed. But I think alot of brandable domains have been either overlooked or undervalued.

I have seen a few brandables - easily the best so far IMHO, is Blue.Tv and to a lesser extent Rum.Tv, both owned by the same owner.

Does anyone else think this way - or am i on a desert island in my thinking!!??

Why, at this time, do you believe (and which) End users will pay these amounts ... for ".TV" brands / brandables? :gl:
IYHO.

I would think it would be the other way around (ie., generics (which are also brandable(s))) ... but not near these types of figures, IMHO.

Thanks much,

Millers,
I created a pretty interesting thread a few months back.
I believe you were still on your vacation...lol
It is very interesting to see where everyones head is at while fine-tining their Portfolios.
Check it out.

http://www.namepros.com/dot-tv/640275-place-these-your-order-importance-your.html

My mind has changed a lot towards Brandables, and TV Show type domains within the .tv extension.
They were about middle of the road as my buying was concerned but after that thread, I think I made Brandables/tV Show types #1 for my portfolio. These last few days I really concentrated on those 2 niches pretty hard, and I guarantee you I will make money on them.

The one thing that I found very intriguing is everyones strategy. Everyone here was different. I saw a niche here that didn't seem to be too much of a big deal to others here, so I started to jump on the Brandable type domains.

I love your thinking....Corporations will not flinch on a $xxx, xxx sale, but I really like Brandables quite a bit more lately. TV is visual, so I think Brandables are going to be a HOT commodity one day soon, if not already. I think you're right, I think Brandables are very undervalued right now, and thats ok! More for me...lol

BTW, Brown is a great great name!

As to paying six figures, I totally believe this to be 100% true.

Equity mentioned a 500k deal that of course is under NDA. But I am almost positive who the seller and buyer were for that name.

Tom Rolfson has told me he has had one xxx.xxx deal also under NDA.

I agree all these NDAS including some of mine doesn't help the extension at all with all high deals being subject to NDA, but these are two people I believe 100%.

And just for proof how sensitive these companies can be , when I sold Acht.Tv for xx,xxx, I received notification through JohnTv who brokered the deal that the company wanted me to remove all mention of the pricing on Namepros

Now brandable over generics.....its just a feeling a am getting, and in domaining, you gotta go with your gut instinct.

So there were many names that I saw in the landrush that I could have gotten and were posted here, but never pulled the trigger.

Brown.Tv called out my name and I obediently followed the call.

Since all these names are now reg fee, I will have no problem holding until I do get an offer. If not, its $100 to hold for five years. Hope to see some action in that time frame....

Obviously there are many strings to the bow that is .TV and brandables is one that does have some merit.

I was hammered and praised in equal measure some time back (2008) when I came on and said I just loved the name 'BING' - a classic brandable for a Tv project I had at the time. (James I think you were in favour of the name!)

Strange, that just a few months later a person in a different job decided BING was a brilliant name as well. Stuffed my plans somewhat for growing a channel up, but I believe it has done well for them.

I agree - Brandables CAN be good.

Oh, as for NDA's - I had a $1000 deal go through and the guy wanted NIL DISCLOSURE! That said, I think that we should discount ANY NDA sales and stick to the public known sales only for any price comparisons. I own RS.tv and believe the next letters along RT.tv went for $64,000. No one has even shown interest in mine!!!

DS,

Glad Im not the only one sensing a shift. But it is just a feeling, I have no evidence to back it up......

I do remember Jimbo, I did like the name , especially at reg fee.
And Blitz .Tv - another great brand - I think it may still be on auction, 1st bid at 5k....

I have the same thought, thats why most of my .tv domains include generic/vocabulary flavour.

Totally agree with MillersCrossing. Always thought that the best .tv is brandable .tv.
Even in The Dot Stop's thread I placed brandables at the 1-st place :)

"NDA's" aside (naturally), which End users are paying $XX,xxx / $XXX,xxx for generic or brandable .TV domains ... and then developing (and promoting) them in to rich content & compelling video-centric websites? :gl:

Thanks again,
Jeff B-)

Very very few so far Jeff, which is why in MellowMashers poll, she had to add the yay, then nay, then yay again option at my request.

Four years ago, I felt that .tv was such a good brand it could overcome the premium renewal issue.

Then DM entered the game and shafted everyone by raising almost every premium to ridiculous levels, stifling and strangling and stifling the extension, raising premiums by 1000% plus as the economy continued to tank....

I became a nay and the aftermarket got totally obliteraated , especially premium resales.

But I do believe a gamechanger took place, so now I am BETTING, repeat it for your sake Jeff, I am BETTING on the future of .tv. What has happened to .tv in the past is history.

Where .tv goes from this point forward is anyones guess.....I give you that Jeff. But I am happy to have paid less than 1k on what I consider to be about 15 quality premium domains, which will cost me about $300 per year in renewals.

I can handle that.

^ Fair enough, good insight IMHO. :gl:
