Fellow TV'ers,
Any thoughts on generic color names in the .TV space? It looks like the .com version has been all taken (blue.com had a big sale). In the .tv space, a lot of these generics have been registered. Brown.tv (50K), black.tv(20k) and white.tv(10k) have high registration fees. Where would you go with this in terms of development?

Thanks,
A

Yellow.tv has just been regged by MPS Broadband Sweden, reg fee was $1K :santa:
A friend of mine owns Red.tv and has recently got a series of pretty nice offers on it.
I guess a colour name is obviously memorable, flashy, an attractive umbrella name for any web business. However for $50k, even taking into consideration a possible 70% discount, I would invest in another name, I would take Wow instead of Brown. If you are talking about chosing such a name for development I think you are on the wrong way. Develop your project business first, find your viable market niche, and then according to your plan select your name. A name does not make a site, think about content first, unless you just consider registering intuitive or inspiring names for possible future development. With such high reg fees, if you do not have serious plan behind, this is not investment but risky business.
My 2cents.
By the way Lilac, Saffron, Mauve, are available at standard reg fee :)

They can be used for branding purposes. A good example would be using "Blue" for American Express Blue.

Blue was off the market till a few weeks ago - definately one of the least espensive at 5K and with obvious connections to the porn industry (blue movie) - and corporate branding potential as SKG pointed out - the best of the bunch IMO...

Good points! I agree that with high reg fees, it does not make sense. If you are getting something generic for reg fee, there may be some value in the end. Of course, development is key in establishing long term value. I agree that premium names will cause more appeal. With that being said, there are quite a few gems available at reg fee.

It looks like orange.tv has been taken by Orange PCS. Mobile provider maybe?

Thanks,

A
