Why now?

It is hardly the end of the year, in fact me thinks it could be for some other reason.

Looks like the snapnames scandal has at least brought some cheaper regs at moniker, Thanks for the share.

If your domain names with them are set to autorenew, why not? While I've seen people complain of
autorenew without noticing that activated in the first place, I've also seen others cry because they did
not renew them on time for whatever reason where autorenew could've helped.

Just have that turned off if you really don't need it. Problem solved.

The timing is not suspicious to me at all. Fabulous is in the middle of a promo, my guess is trying to ramp up revenues for the 4th quarter and early part of 2010. Holiday Shopping has people spending online. Good opportunity.

Exactly. This seems like a good time for them to lay low. IMO.

Yeah, damage control was the first thing to pop into my head too (cheap renewals = preventing exodus), but I'll probably be taking advantage of this on renewals... Hope it all goes well. I think this will blow over.

I'm pretty sure that Snap and Moniker are two different entities under one parent company. Not saying this means that people shouldn't be very aware of what happens at Oversee, but it probably isn't fair to blame Moniker for what went on at Snap. That would be like blaming the Jay Leno show for a joke you didn't like from Conan O'Brien, just because they're both with NBC.

Dongsman, I totally agree about not blaming Moniker. Apart from my obvious concern with SnapNames (and I think that goes for the majority of domainers as well) is now with the parent company Oversee.com.

I have never had a dispute with Moniker and the 'old' Moniker used to be looked on as a shinning example of a good company within the industry, but lately more complaints it appears are surfacing and one has the feeling that the problems arise since the takeover. It now all depends on how Oversee handles this crisis, if they even now quickly press charges against Nelson Brady they could do themselves a lot of good in the eyes of domainers - on the other hand if they do not quickly press charges then the domaining world will ask 'Why not?'

The financial loses will be huge, one wonders if some of the 'biggest' buyers will be compensated at a much higher level but with a non-disclosure agreement all behind closed doors? That would not be unusual in business unfortunately, and I do not just mean this business.

The survival of SnapNames depends on:

1) Oversee immediately and publicly pressing charges against Brady
2) Increasing the settlement offer to domainers
3) Shedding anyone from SnapNames and Oversee who through negligence or incompetence allowed this situation to develop in the first place or did not investigate it when the subject was brought to their attention many times both prior to the takeover and since the takeover.
4) Bring charges against anyone else thought to have been involved.
and
5) For the sake of the rest of their stable of companies (including Moniker of course) Oversee must publicly state they will underwrite any costs and/or damages resulting from this.

In essence that would likely initially cost in total some $10-$15 million (a very broad guestimate on my part) but it could save the company far more over the next year or two from possible losses in the trading figures and values of their companies.
