Anyone notice anything different with Moniker drops ?

I was following a couple of names which were showing as Pending delete (registered at Moniker) and somehow they went straight to a 3 day open auction at snapnames starting at $79 without anyone having a backorder on them :-/

How come ?

I'm not picking on just you, but I get a kick out of these kinds of threads. As you know, nobody can really help look into something without the domain(s).

With that said..

Did the domains lose it's original creation date?

They try sell domains at Snap. If domains will be sold, domains will be renewed and moved to buyer's account. If not - domains will be deleted.

This is the case for "some" domains, but not the ones the OP was talking about. PD domains can not be "renewed"!

You bullying me again Yofie :p ;) kidding

I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed a change, especially you Yofie because you have eagle eyes when it comes to watching the behaviour of registrars  ...I do read your blog :tu:

I don't really like to post the names all the time because search engines pick em up pretty quick + you end up getting $60 offers

I'll send you the name and some other info Yofie you may find something I missed. Yes, it kept its 8 years age.

Cheers :tu:

I take it that EXPIRED-PENDING DELETE is technically the same thing as
PENDING DELETE ???

I will be glad to look into it. ;)

Posting the domain as a Picture will prevent SE's from picking it up :D

Expired-PendingDelete I would say is the same as PendingDelete. It's likely just how the specific registrar display's it.

Snap will try to intercept these domains for $79 per each.

Sometimes Snapnames catches domains that they think are valuable, even if nobody has backordered them. I speak from experience.

hi,

i've been seing lots of domains from Oversee (that owns Moniker and Snapnames) that have for some time been in Oversee's account (more than a year. tracking down the history of the domain, many times oversee suggests in the whois info that the domain came from an unpaid renew. question: if it was not paid shouldn't the domain have been released to public?)

i'm talking about mainly short domains and interesting ones, all in the $xxx to low $x.xxx range.

they are going to snapnames for auction after pending renew.

not sure if i saw any in pending delete phase.

regards

This was the whois a few days before it went to open 3 day auction (without any bidders or backorders)

(I removed the domain)

hi gazzip,

i think i'm not wrong in saying that the status "EXPIRED - PENDING DELETE" means really "Expired - Pending renew" and it is common to see variations of this name in other registrars.

This status is a way for the domain to not be deleted from the registry. That is, the domain is still in the 45 days Renew Grace Period or AUTO-RENEW period that .com TLD registry gives. This period may be used in part or totally by the Registrar before sending a delete comand to the Registry (after which there is still a 30 days Redemption Grace Period as a safety net for unintentional deletes)

I never understood why the Registry don't simply puts an AUTORENEW (or why this procedure is not mandatory across registrars) on the domain status when consulting the WHOIS for the domain. This makes it allways necessary to check with the WHOIS of the Registrar of the domain to confirm the expiration date and status of the domain and this status is not uniform across the different Registrars.

Note: in some gTLDs, like .ORG, there is also tipically a lag on updating the domain status. If a domain goes to expiration and enters the AUTORENEW period and if the owner renews again the domain, the WHOIS is many case will keep showing that status for some time before being set back to "OK".

I summary, if a domain has expired it will show on the WHOIS Registry info as expiring in the *next year*. You will need to see the WHOIS info from the Registrar to check the true expiration date. This one will tell you if the domain is in a pending renew period or not. The particular status is in many times misleading or confusing.

tonecas

As others have pointed out, what you're seeing is a registrar status - it's of little meaning in regards to dropcatching. The registry status is what matters, which in this case is showing as being in the renew grace period.

Checking the Registry directly (not through 3rd parties) is the best way to determine the true status of a domain.

.COM and .NET Registry
VeriSign Whois Search from VeriSign, Inc.

.ORG Registry
.:: Public Interest Registry ::. (whois query is on right-hand side)

On an aside, .org is a thick registry, but have seen numerous instances in which registrar domain status doesn't match that of the registry - so even for thick registries, it's best to check the registry directly to verify.
