I was after a name that was showing pending delete up until the day it was supposed to drop at snap, I was the only person at snapnames that had a backorder placed but it looks like it was kept by the registrar. (don't want to say the domain)

..Similar thing with the domain ilovechocolate.com recently.

Anyone know for sure if they just keep them for themselves like Tucows ?

Thanks

Hmm, ilovechocolate appears to be registered since 1996:

Domain Name: ILOVECHOCOLATE.COM
Registrar: DOTSTER, INC.
Whois Server: whois.dotster.com
Referral URL: http://www.dotster.com
Name Server: NS1.REVENUEDIRECT.COM
Name Server: NS2.REVENUEDIRECT.COM
Status: clientDeleteProhibited
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Updated Date: 24-aug-2008
Creation Date: 24-aug-1996
Expiration Date: 23-aug-2009

Not sure if that ever hit pending delete or even redemption period. Is anyone
able to check WHOIS history for that?

Gazzip, as in that domain name's status was pending delete? There's little to
no way its last sponsoring registrar can get that domain name back. (unless 1
is open to possibly conspiracy theories, he he...)

If your domain is not in your account, then the domain could have expired and was removed from your account. If it is within 30 days past the expiration, the domain can be placed back into your account and you can renew the domain. You will need to contact Customer Care in order for the domain to be placed back into your account.

If you domain is past the 30 day expiration your domain could be in the "REDEMPTIONPERIOD". This is part of the Registry's Redemption Grace Period.

If the domain is not renewed, the domain is given a 30 day grace period before the domain is deleted from our system. We continue to send notices on the following dates: 1, 5, 10, 15, 22, 30, 35, and 39 days after the domain has expired. During this time, the domain can still be renewed by logging into your account and renewing the domain. Within 10 days after the domain is deleted, the Registry puts the domain in the status, "REDEMPTIONPERIOD". You can view this status by going to www.verisign-grs.com and searching on your domain. During the Redemption Period, the Registry gives the owner of the domain one more chance to re-activate the domain. The cost to re-activate the domain is $99.95. The Redemption Period lasts 30 days. *Approximate time - actual time set by the Registry. If the domain is not re-activated, the domain enters a "PENDINGDELETE" status. The domain will be purged from the registry database after being in this status for 5 calendar days. Only then will the domain be available to register as new.

You have 2 options:

FIRST OPTION: Domain Activation Fee: $99.95
If you decide to re-activate your domain, please go to the following link and go through the redemption and renewal process:

https://secure.registerapi.com/order/redeem/?siteid=4798

**Very Important** You must renew your domain immediately after redeeming it or the domain may slip back into REDEMPTIONPERIOD again. If this occurs you will be required to redeem the domain again, with another $99.95 charge being required. You are responsible for logging into the account and making sure that the domain was renewed successfully and that an invoice for the renewal is received.

SECOND OPTION:
Wait until the Registry deletes the domain and releases it to the public. The domain will be available on the 36th day after it entered the Redemption Grace Period.
If you wish to pursue this option, you can bid on domains that are about to become publicly available. If yours is the winning bid, we will watch for the registry to drop the domain and attempt to snatch it up for you instantaneously. This greatly increases your chances of being able to get the domain you want.

I thought ilovechocolate.com was also in pending delete status but I don't know for sure...if anyone else noticed or can check whois history for that one it would be great.

The other one that was in pending delete status and was once developed and owned by someone - now its still registered with dotster and parked on the same page as the ilovechocolate.com one with the same privacy email address.

whois.sc shows it as a continual reg from 2002 to 2009 (with no mention of a drop)

I thought Dotster was a partner with snapnames so if they did'nt pass the domain to auction where I was the only one with a backorder and its not in the original persons name anymore but still at Dotster then to me....it looks like they decided to keep it for themselves.

I may very well be wrong but it does'nt seem to add up to a usual drop :-/

Just thought someone here may know already if they are known for wharehousing domains.

Thanks
