That picture shows a very little room comparated to what I was thinking.....what`s that.....an elite auction for 20 people only?
I'm sure there were more than 20 but I have yet to hear anything about who was in the room or even how many.

I think some .mobi haters are just pathetics.

They wait every single little opportunity to just start all over the same arguments.

First they said it will never be worth anything that extension.

Then after hundreds of good sales , they just wait this auction to say that the bubble is bursting?

I just can`t read such BS anymore.

Let`s have a look:

TOTAL: 101 UNSOLD DOMAINS OUT OF 218 DOMAINS.

Names as Scotland.com , SIX.com , 62.com , Commodities.com, Cats.com, DSL.com, Dollars.com and more great .com ARE UNSOLD.

So, please.....just be realistic you and Domain Name Wire: it`s not a .mobi bubble burst but rather you can`t exepct to find MILLIONS $$$ for every domain just because it is for sale. Who were the buyers this time and who were at the other traffic auctions? And plus you can`t expect that just a few bunch of investors or rich annoyed people that just want that domain is willing to buy all domains offered.
Maybe the whole industry should think how to move ahead and do not pretend to ask millions for everything without not even being able to explain who is going to be targeted as buyers, which domains are offered and why....plus so many other things that people don`t get to know because only the money seem to be important. Well, keep things this way and I won`t be surprised if the whole domain industry will implode pretty soon, not just .mobi

Have just a look at the reality.

Seriously, though ... do we know who the Buyer(s) (and what their development plans might be) are for Labtops.mobi and Mortgages.mobi? :gl: :talk:
Thanks kindly.

No, this was at the end when everyone was flocking towards the exit.

This is also the back, back of the room.

There were at least 300+ people in the room. Not a small crowd by any means.

^ Perhaps, Scandi ... the thing is NO ONE knows how this will all shake out, but I think it's fairly safe to say that the Mobile Web is definitely coming! :music: :talk:

I may even register one more - to develop, for sure - at GoDaddy, I'll keep you posted ... :guilty:

Does anyone know why starting price for a silent auction would be almost $2000 more than the reserve price?

Yeah I know wierd right? I cant figure it out are fees that much over the reserve price?

The reserve includes the fees. Example below from a submission form:

Take Home $299
Commission $53
Min Sales Price $352

Oh and BTW, the MIN bid for any name is $300.. or so my rep told me. So anyone with a zero reserve still has a starting bid of $300.

I think the guys at TRAFFIC must be smokin' something... seriously... GovernorsIsland.mobi ... for that price... I mean.. who's going to type that into their mobile fun... I guess if Paris Hilton is at the Governors Mansion and all the kids are trying to crash the party!

Let's go with no .MOBI Reserves in the future, period. Start at $1.00 and let the market dictate ... and hopefully, in the process, offer some potential incentive / affordability for developers / End users! :gl: :talk:

Just my two sense ... I believe the next Traffic Show is in October! :yell:

If the .com owners do the same I will consider it. Good luck with that.

I really can't wait to see the sales prices on some of these. I think we all are going to be surprised.

Were you surprised?

Wow. $120k. Too bad no one but it, but if someone was willing to pay $120k for the name then mobi is quite strong.

To me this appeared to be an auctioneer trick. Calling out bids when no one bid.
In some of the .com auctions a real bidder would be trying to see who he was bidding against. The auctioneer would chastise him to get him to hurry up and bid.

Many are mentioning this and if true it is a bad sign for this venue in general. Hard to imagine the outcry if it was discovered Sedo was shill bidding in their own marketplace. But that is exactly what you are describing here and few seem to care.

Again, I am telling you, not a SOUL bid on scores.mobi, or I was blind since I did NOT see a paddle go up ONCE.

The auctioneer just all of a sudden hit from 0 to 110k in literally less then 10 seconds and I was like whoah, who the hell was bidding.

IMO, this was an insider technique to get someone to bid in the heat of the moment. Skip all the "bullshit" and go straight to a situation where a bid makes a sale.

This isn't targeting just mobi, but was done in many other auctions, where they would go straight to a price which was just under the reserve, to save time (they want to keep it at a fast pace), and when he saw nothing was going to happen, Monte just signaled to skip the name.

So, is there anyone else who can corroborate what Sam is saying here? This sounds pretty shady to me. Is this a standard auction technique? If we can't verify that bidders were actually bidding on mobi names, than this is not a great sign.
I'm starting to think that scores.mobi did not recieve a single bid.

I'm not concerned about .mobi, but the interest from investors does not seem to be quite there yet.

Yes, if true, it is shady and deceptive, regardless of the tld involved. At worst, the live auction results tell me that deep pocketed .comers weren't very interested in .mobi on Thursday :'(:'( ok, I'm over it.

Actually I am an auctioneer and it has been a family buisness for 25 years. Ususally the auctioneer always starts the bidding , this is to prevent begging for bids and slowing the auction down. So if a reserve on an item is $25,000 the auctioneer would start it at for instance at $20,000 and ask for the next bid of $25,000 which would be the reserve. It would be silly and I believe frustrating for an auctioneer to start a bid at $1.00 on something thats reserve price is $25,000.
If you have other questions please let me know.

Would you expect them to be at this stage of the game? Remember, it's only been 9 months. Any interest at all and some of the bids that we did see after only 9 months is a great sign, in my view.

So do you think a grand total of THREE or FOUR .mobi buyers at TRAFFIC (for all the .mobi's that have ever sold at TRAFFIC) means there is "interest" from big buyers?

Of course two of those buyers haven't bought a single more .mobi. (Rich Schwartz and the man who bought all the .mobis at TRAFFIC WEST).

Me & GregR were sitting in the auction room together, at least it surpassed our expectations, we were expecting less then $10,000 from .mobi.

Gotta love that guy with the watch if your a .mobi fan, too bad i didn't ask for his info. Then I could sell that data for :$: :$: :$: :yell:

Some of the bids? Again, there were no bids except for laptops.mobi and Mortgages.mobi.
